Sent a lens in to Fuji for repair. They received it on Oct 25, 2021. Finally called about it on December 3rd. Was told they were waiting for my authorization based on their estimate. They never sent/called me an estimate.
Anyone else have an experience like this?
Curious...

Sorry for your experience. Also understand the typos. No big deal. My own experience with KEH has been minimal. Sold them some film stuff years ago. Got pennies on the dollar, but it was usable and worth reselling.
As for buying anything used I need to have the item in hand before I open my wallet. Will purchase new items from B&H, Amazon, Camera Quest, etc. Nothing used unless I get it in hand before paying. Cars, cameras, etc. And I have never had a problem. Again you have my sympathy and I regret some of the replies you received.

This Leica M2 rode out Hurricane Katrina on a high closet shelf. Friend gave it to me when he finally got back into his house. It was a “Brick” with minor leather tearing. I sent it to DIGITECH CAMERA REPAIR in the Los Angeles area. Phone # +1 626-577-2001. Call first.. Owner goes by John B. He will answer. This was in 2006/7. Since then I have used him exclusively for Leica, Voigtlander, and Sony (digital) servicing. The Grey Griptac covering was by another firm in the northeast.

If it isn’t worth fixing or cost prohibitive, he will let you know up front. Good Luck

I think “operative word” that if the camera is set to spot meter and you read one color object exclusively, that item should read as zone 5.
i.e. reading a white bed sheet or a black blanket exclusively; both should come out a zone 5 rendition. Probably should have camera set to a monochrome mode and fully automatic to measure the meter’s accuracy. Know this works for good old tri-x and Pentax spot meter in the old days. Got me curious. Time to get out the white sheet and dark blanket and set Fuji film simulation to Acros. Thanks for the post…

U tube posts largely strike me as hi-tech Facebook if it’s opinions as opposed to something useful like “how to” something. I thing the policy is working. I divorced Facebook and media opinions. Enjoy forming my own and only share when asked,

[quote=fehutch]No one has mentioned Linux yet, so…
I have been using LINUX MINT for over 5 years. Before that another Linux distribution - probably UBUNTU. I started with Red Hat 9 in 1999 when I set up an email server for a school district. 1300 users at that time. Total cost less than $50 and availability of a couple of Dell Dimension desktop PCs that had been retired from classroom use. Linux is like that, computer thrifty - don’t need the latest and greatest. No need for anti-virus anti-spyware software. And it comes with all software included In the OS. At that time, all we needed.

Today’s Mint distribution includes Open Office which speaks and reads MS Office, Firefox Browser, Thunderbird Email client -same as Outlook or MSMail and easier to use, the equivalent accessory packages on a Windows Installation - to numerous to mention, and photo software packages including GIMP (acronym for Graphic Image Manipulation Program). Gimp is supposed to be the equivalent of PhotoShop - I don’t know; don’t use either one. Everything I need to polish an image for paper is available in any of the less robust graphics packages available as part of the Mint distribution.

This software is all FREE and OS upgrades come as downloads weekly. All you need is an internet connection and the ability to click on an icon and follow instructions. Everything is password secure and you set all your own passwords. Mint looks like Windows; same desktop design, etc. But inside, a whole different animal. No Defragging or disk cleaning stuff to worry about. My wife has an identical system - different hardware, but the same inside. Loaded her box from the same dvd I used to reinstall on mine. No licensing issues, no installation codes to be concerned about. She also has a MAC laptop - had to have it - seldom uses it

In Hurricane Ida, as in Katrina, we lost power - about a day. I shut down both UPS boxes, which is all I needed to do. When the power came back, turned them on, and both systems came right up. I think hers had been on for over a year before the storm. Super reliable, super inexpensive, and super easy to use.

outside of the monthly fee I pay to my website provider, I have no fees for software, purchase or rental. I frankly find the notion of renting software or purchasing something that I am going to have to pay more for later to stay up to date a really stupid idea. I purchased Vuescan for my Canoscan scanner over 5 years ago. Paid for lifetime subscription; the updates come in (Like LINUX), whenever there is one - for free.

Now the big problem with Linux (nothing’s perfect) is the lack of printer support. This is in the USA mainly because manufacturers develop for Windows first, MAC second, the rest only in Europe where there is much more of a Linux presence. I chose my printers (both Canon) because the models had Linux drivers available. They were included in the Mint software distribution. It was pretty much automatic. I use a Pixma IX6800 series (CMYK with extra black). I use after market ink - several sources from Amazon. 15 years now with the same setup. My wife has a different Canon printer scanner combo that takes the same inks. Much cheaper and easy to keep supply inventory.

This is way more elaborate than I had intended, but it is so simple and inexpensive. Certainly not worth the grief I read here a lot. Take great pictures; don’t let the post-processing run you down. Love the site.

I purchased two Mega Gear neoprene cases from Amazon a couple of years ago. One for Fuji X-E3 w lens attached and other for Sony R-x10. Fits like a glove. NOT for Fuji 90mm (lens too big).. All other primes fit OK…

I own a pair of Canon S100’s. Pocketable and limited zoom range. They dwell in the center console of each car. Couple of spare batteries and a charger. Have been very reliable.

I keep an old battered igloo ice chest in the back of my car (2005 dodge magnum). It’s sole purpose is to provide safe carry for cameras and lens. Inside packing is anything soft. This is weatherproof (heat and rain) if necessary. And not attractive to thieves.

Love it. Sharp is sharp. I can study the background details and appreciate what you have captured. Leave this one alone.

I have a dilemma. There's no absolute right answer so let's agree to skip that answer. I'm heading to a beautiful place with landscapes and nature. I have (defined by quality) an A camera and a B camera. I have a extreme wide angle and a zoom with a big focal length range. Which lens would you place on which camera? High winds and lots of hiking so switching back and forth isn't a good idea. Thank you.

Within the parameters of the question and disregarding all speed bump answers:
Put the zoom on A and the wide angle on B. Best camera paired with most versatile lens. I would use B only for controllable exposure situations. That’s what I would plan; and I like the idea of two bodies for versatility.

Having had both eyes done years ago, I have found that implants are best that require spectacles for reading - not for distances. Sunglasses only for walking around, glasses for lcd screens, and viewfinder diopter adjustment to accommodate “no specs” direct eye viewing. Hope that helps.

65,000 is a lot - even by retired age. When I got to 2,000 - barely a dent on my passsport drive, I thought about what I would ever print and who would even bother with looking at them in the future.

My salvation came via the delete key. The first few were difficult then I got on a roll. Got to less than 1,000 in one week. An hour a day then think about it. Repeat daily.
Now I spend more time taking and keeping only the printables.
I wish you luck.
My advice: cull ruthlessly. Your images can only get better.

I used an m2 with 28mm elmarit for years. Vowed I would purchase the first digital camera that truly looked and felt the same. Finally saw the Fuji X -E3 w 23mm prime. Truly a baby m2. Lighter but feels so much the same

Ok so there are so many times Im driving down the road and wish I had my camera. I have always heard its not good to leave it in the car due to weather changes and moisture. Does anyone have their camera in their car, and is it ok to do this?

Thanks
Julie

I always carry a camera with me. Since 1960’s. Have found that an small old ice chest draws little attention, and is not worth a thief’s effort. Camera body wide angle prime and a medium zoom. On the floor in the back seat. Old towel or blanket on top. The less precise, the better. Like thrown in junk.
