LOST FILM - Honolulu, August 14, 1945.
JUST THINK HOW THIS YOUNG LADY FELT WHEN SHE DISCOVERED THE VIDEO HER FATHER SHOT.
Great video of a Spontaneous Victory Parade in Honolulu in 1945. Take a look at this video-absolutely fabulous! Notice the cars, jeeps, and youth. The guys in khaki or gray shirts and black ties are Navy officers or chiefs. The rest are Army or Marine. How young they all were to do what they did.
This guy really captured a moment in history! This is a super video of a time past - we need to remember and be THANKFUL.
Check out the color fidelity. It's not bad for 1945.

I have had great shots from 15" to 100 yards with a Tamron 18-270mm. Because it is 3.5-6.3 "walking around" outside is best! ;-)
Many folks think that a 50mm FX lens will yield a 1.5 (Nikon) MAGNIFICATION but that is not the case.......field of view and magnification are two different issues.
The 8 foot window vs the 5 ft window example explains it best, IMHO
(less available scene, but no additional magnification)
I set the camera on a tripod around 6 ft from the feeder and a remote radio flash around the same distance @ 45 degrees and higher than the feeder......the Tamron zoom was only at ~100mm with the camera set on shutter preferred @ 1/200 because that is the fastest flash sync on the 5100.
The porch in in the shade most of the day which is the reason for the choice of the remote flash.
Busy day......D5100, Tamron 18-270mm radio remote flashes and remote stutter to activate from inside.
Shutter preferred @ 1/200th
Spot focused on the actual suet....most shot at f6+ so the DOF is sufficient to capture the bird.
A red belly woodpecker is shown on another post.
Rose Breasted Grossbeak
Mom and Pop Bluebird
Downey Woodpecker
Wings
Took these shots with a D5100 and Tamron 18-270mm lens.
Set up remote flashes (shady porch) and used a remote shutter activator, so I could remain hidden inside.
This guy loves suet! :-D

My vote would be the Panasonic Lumix FZ150.
It also has an articlulated screen, hot shoe and shoots AVCHD video through a nano coated 24X Leica lens.
Bought this for my wife for her nature/birding hobby and the results are great.
Interested in critiques.....
Taken with a new Nikon 5100 with a 18-270 Tamron. I was checking to determine how close I could get, since the lens is not a true macro.
Thanx

Sorry, no.
The image would be exactly the same the surrounding FOV would be less.......think of it as the DX is cropping....when you crop the actual image is not magnifiied, you are just taking away the surroundings.
I would disagree.....the field of view is narrower on a DX but the magnification is exactly the same.
Field of View is affected, but NOT magnification.
The apparent distance from the camera to the subject is exactly the same given the same lens on a DX or FX camera.......the DX will have a smaller FOV, but the same magnification.
This may be a bit "off topic", but if there was ever a series of photos that could evoke emotion, this is it.
For being over 150 years old the photos are extraordinary.
I demonstrates the power of the both the camera and the photographer.
This appears to be the first in a series.
Many are graphic (and true) shots, thus viewer be warned, but to see our history so exposed is a privileged.

Thanx to all that responded and solved my issue!
I use Pinnacle Studio 15HD, since there is a lot of editing to be done on most video clips, including removing segments in the middle or concatenating clips.......this S/W is very easy to use for these tasks, although it will do a lot more. There is a scissor icon to clip and a garbage can to delte the segment.......also gives you full contol of the audio track.
