I would like to know too..and what software is easy for editing? i have Picasa now
There are a few out there (probably several); I've used Sony Vegas Movie Studio. For a Mac, there's Final Cut Pro.
A few more: AdobeĀ® Premiere Pro, CyberLink's PowerDirector, Pinnacle has a couple and then there's the list that some of these are on:

Video rendering (depending on output format) time can vary and I've seen a 10 minute video rendered to AVI take well over an hour on a regular old pc.
Good luck!

My son does a lot of video, and he uses PowerDirector. He also uses the free Windows program - Windows Movie Maker.
The important part is getting good video to edit.

I'm using a program called "Video Pad" by NCH software.
It's easy to use and as opposed to when I first started shooting HD with my Canon, I no longer have to convert formats. Then I was constantly converting to wmv just to edit. Except for the obvious quality loss and the pain in the patoot, it worked pretty well.
Since then I've upgraded my computer, I keep Quick Time installed (free download) because Video Pad uses some QT files to handle mov video.
No more conversion, no quality loss, all's well.
I recommend Video Pad. It has a free trial so you can figure out if you like it or not.
Good Luck
Hello do mean i can shoot on HD format without conversion and it will play on any VCD machine? pls i need more clarification.

What kind of out put do you want?
1st time user, Use MSN movie maker. Good program, easy to use and free. if you want more professional out put? Several out there at under $100. If you want to prodce a professional looking movie, Cyberlink "Power Director 10" for about $100+. If PD10, get out your check book for new PC or big upgrade. PC will need to edit and produce a movie: PS--750VDC, Video card--$400 range, CPU--quid core or I7, Harddrives--2 with 1 fast for C drive and after loading with min 100 left free space second drive 1 or 2 TBs, motherboard--hold min 8 Ram $80 but will handle $240 with high quality chips price $225
Lots of fun and great for using imagination
