Read all the posts/recommendations on UHH about Big Bend. They were a great help. We went two weeks ago and loved it.

That shot is not just your best, it's the best one I've seen in 65 years of photography. Great job!

A month or so ago I noted that I was thinking of replacing my win 7 laptop for the Surface Pro 4. I bought a Surface PRO 4 WITH 16GB , i7 CPU and 512GB SSD. I use it as a general purpose PC that, with a large IPS monitor is also used for my PP. I am extremely happy with it. Win10 handled all of my programs with minimal adjustment, the processing speed is much faster(with D800 large NEF files and the screen out of the box is perfectly calibrated. Win 10 takes a little getting used to but once used for a while is stable and functional. The size and weight make it perfect for travel and 20 second bootup and shutdown is easy to get used to.

I have been using Nx2 for many years and I am happy with the results. I recently purchased a new computer with Win 10, downloaded Nx2 and started using it. Everything was OK until I went to save (as a NEF) a processed file. Got a message that this couldn't be done. Nikon confirmed that Nx2 was not compatible with Win 10 and wouldn't be updated. I can save the modified photo as a jpeg or tif, but I lost the ability to save the modified nef with the history of changes. Has anybody else had this problem and have they found a work around?

Thanks all for your help. I recently had an opportunity to "borrow' a new Surface Pro 4 and the improvements were amazing. Mansurov's comments in Photographhy Life have clinched it for me. When my tax refund comes in I am going to bite the bullet that I really can't afford to swallow and purchase the Pro 4 with i7 CPU, 16 gb and a 540 gb SSD. I'll get back to you Hoggers in a couple of months with feedback on my decision

I understand the normal bias towards Macbooks for post processing but my long history and other uses for Windows has me thinking about buying a Pro 4 tablet for portable usage which includes PP for a Nikon D800 (large files) as well as many other uses. Has anyone been using the Pro 4 for that purpose and what specs would you recommend. i5 vs i7 CPU, 8 or 16 gb of SDRAM, etc. Wny recommendations will be gratefully considered.

As an aside! This years problem with few birds at Wakodahatchee stem from a windstorm with 50-60 mph gusts that came through Wakodahatchee with the first strong cold front last month. It destroyed many of the nests and killed most of the young chicks that were in them. The Preserve simply hasn't come back. We can hope for future recovery.

If you have an ipad or ipod the $30 camera connector will permit direct transfer of raw or jpeg files. I have a 64gb ipad mini which I use to do transfer and aas a sub for my laptop when travelling.
