I understand the normal bias towards Macbooks for post processing but my long history and other uses for Windows has me thinking about buying a Pro 4 tablet for portable usage which includes PP for a Nikon D800 (large files) as well as many other uses. Has anyone been using the Pro 4 for that purpose and what specs would you recommend. i5 vs i7 CPU, 8 or 16 gb of SDRAM, etc. Wny recommendations will be gratefully considered.

it's my dream travel machine. after looking at what is available, that was my choice. if i had the free cash. and i would definitely go with the i7. i might settle for 8 gb, unless money was really not a problem. extra memory can always be added later. but the processor is forever.

Unfortunately, many new computers sold today have RAM is soldered in and can't be changed. Something to consider when buying a computer.

i7 fer shurrre. You cannot add ram later so get the 16 gb or see if you can try out the 8 gb before buying it

The SP is a great tablet, but upgrade-ability (Is that even a word?) suffers like all tablets. I bought an Aspire ultrabook with SSD which has worked well for several years and weighs little more than my tablet with a keyboard. ASUS also makes a light weight laptop with SSD that weighs less than 3 lb.

Review of a SP 2 on Photography Life. https://photographylife.com/reviews/microsoft-surface-pro-2-for-photographers
Compares it with other options. Nasim was an IT type in a previous life, now devoted to photography. Hope this helps

Thanks all for your help. I recently had an opportunity to "borrow' a new Surface Pro 4 and the improvements were amazing. Mansurov's comments in Photographhy Life have clinched it for me. When my tax refund comes in I am going to bite the bullet that I really can't afford to swallow and purchase the Pro 4 with i7 CPU, 16 gb and a 540 gb SSD. I'll get back to you Hoggers in a couple of months with feedback on my decision
