Green Heron Wako and thoughts .....
Shot this at Wakodahatchee (FL) yesterday - a clean shot of a Green Heron in good light.
1/500, f5.6, ISO 640 Sony A77II and Sigma 100-300 f4 with 1.5X CIZ = 450mm, full frame ( no crop) from bodypod.
The birds and activity for this time of year here is very disappointing !
I did get to see my first Canon 200-400 1.4X lens in the flesh ! I thought it was a 600 f4 at first - it is that BIG - and- of course was mounted on a gimbal/tripod. It gave me great comfort to realize my little Sigma 100-300 f4 with CIZ compares favorably ( IMO):
Canon 200-400 can equal 200-560mm @ f4-f5.6. Cost? = $12K
Sigma 100-300 W/ 2X CIZ can equal 100-600mm @f4. Cost? = $500.
Really awesome capture. Beautiful bird!

Such a beautiful bird and for some reason I'm mesmerized by its feet wrapped around the branch. Like usual from you, a beautiful shot. Gary

Thanks so much Carol ! :) ........
Their relative smaller size makes them somewhat challenging - always.

Yes, usually their feet are under water and you do not get to see them this clearly ......and used in this way.

Excellent capture Larry, beautiful bird. :D
I can count the feathers with those beautiful colors. Do you mean $12 thousand or $1,200 for the Cannon rig?
Sharp as can be, nice light, nice subject. Makes for a great photo.

Thanks so much Bill ! ........
It is somewhat unusual to get as clean a shot as this without foliage everywhere ( and in the way!)
Great picture, too bad the branch crosses the bill.
