Use of Surface Pro 4

A month or so ago I noted that I was thinking of replacing my win 7 laptop for the Surface Pro 4. I bought a Surface PRO 4 WITH 16GB , i7 CPU and 512GB SSD. I use it as a general purpose PC that, with a large IPS monitor is also used for my PP. I am extremely happy with it. Win10 handled all of my programs with minimal adjustment, the processing speed is much faster(with D800 large NEF files and the screen out of the box is perfectly calibrated. Win 10 takes a little getting used to but once used for a while is stable and functional. The size and weight make it perfect for travel and 20 second bootup and shutdown is easy to get used to.

I just got one with the i5 cpu 8gb ram and the 256 SSD, it is faster than most laptops, and I will use the cloud or a portable HD to keep the SSD from collecting too many images, heck, you can now purchase 256 gb thumb drives which makes transfer to your desktop very convenient and easy.

Another hogger said that he had one and it over heated, maybe he had the three because I noticed that I ran mine for somewhere around 12 hours and it seemed much cooler to the touch than my previous laptops.

That matches my experience. I haven't time the bootup, but it's really fast.

I have the SP3 and have been really happy with it. I used it the first time for PP about a year ago when I made a 15-photograph pan of one of the barrier islands of the coast of North Carolina. The island is 26 miles long. After topping the bridge over the intercostal waterway and moving down to get the composition exactly as I wanted it, I made 15 photos with my Sony Rx100 M3 (I was traveling to help my mom-on-law prepare her property to sell and had brought only that little gem with me from Denver area). I wanted to see it, so I downloaded Photoshop and was absolutely blown away by the performance of the SP3. It did the stitch in a flash! Granted this is a 1-inch sensor, but 15 images...a final image that was 8-feet wide! Blew me away. I had the image printed and mounted on Aluminum. It now hangs in my mom-in-laws bedroom at our place where she is now a guest for life. I'd love to get the bigger SP4 or the newer SP Book. They're great!
