It's a Corn Snake (non poisonous) and pretty common in S. Florida.

Corn snake vs coral snake

Old rhyme that can save lives.

The coral snake rhyme varies from person to person, but the general premise is the same: Red touch black, safe for Jack. Red touches yellow, kills a fellow. The coral snake will have bands of red touching smaller bands of yellow.

Looks like a photo of a coral snake to me.

This is the second strongest venomous snake among any snake. Its venom contains neurotoxins .Its coral family has different color bands : red, yellow, pink, black. Stay away from these colorful snakes !

Venomous? Maybe. Poisonous? No! Most snakes may be safely eaten if properly prepared, therefore not poisonous. Venom must be injected, and with snakes that means hollow fangs.
Poison enters the body through four means: absorption, inhalation, injection, ingestion.

   Black nose, black hearse, black arm band, black widow's weeds, etc. I get confused with the red touches, etc so I just stick with black nose = death. But only if you pick the thing up and hook its tiny fangs into the web between you fingers or the like. This snake doesn't "strike" like the others it chews. They are also very shy. Just shoot a photo and take that home as was done here.

Correct. I grew up in Florida. If you are into the fauna, you learn this real quick. Black head, you're dead.

Gorgeous shots. That is a pretty rare find, too. Thankfully, you did NOT step on the poisonous little bugger!

I'm pretty sure we're talking about the difference between a coral snake & a king snake. A corn snake looks nothing like either of those. I had a corn snake pet when I was young & stupid. Head not important. Red touches yellow on the coral, not on the king. Sometimes called the scarlet king.

Yes , the snakes or rattle snakes taste like chicken when they are fried.
I used to live in Amarillo, North Panhandle of Texas and had several times the opportunity to face with rattle snakes either on my quail hunting paths or sometimes in the back yard. The Texans have fried rattle snakes in their local Amarilloan restaurants .
