I've posted a few images and comments about my Sony RX 10 IV. I have so much to learn about the camera.
OK, how many of your would admit to these f--- ups?
1. Took 200 images in Prague, in extremely hot weather (90+ degrees), and discover I had no card inserted. BTW: they were wonderful images.
2. Took about the same number of images in Vienna and discovered no card in the camera.
3. My wife was sick in Budapest so we spent a day in the hotel room. No images.
4. We had one more day after our tour ended (today). Hired a private driver and guide to take us around the city, specifically for photo scenes and vantage viewpoints. He was terrific and added history of the country as we drove from site to site. Fabulous sites!!! Fabulous images!! Get back to hotel, paid him $180 & a $40 gratuity for three hours. Could not wait to get back to hotel room to review the images. Guess what? No images!! For the 3rd time, NO Card!!

I could not understand why I did not receive a "no card" warning and how the camera took images without a card. Took out the book (Alexander White) and discoverd I had not enabled the feature in the voluminous menu. DUH!! DUH!!. My father, only in jest, used to day to me, "you're getting dumber by the day"! He was right!!

No lectures please or how to prevent such mistakes. I've been whipped enough.

I'll soon recover and forgive myself.
Mark
I've posted a few images and comments about my Son... (show quote)

Sorry for your misfortune. Hope the memories will provide some solace. But why the heck after the first misstep didn't you do a visual check of the card slot before venturing out?

Photographer Barbara Vorster dropped DSLR while touring Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana. Cubs complained that Back Button Focus was too hard to manipulate, will wait for another tourist to drop a Nikon before the Pride makes up its mind.

Vorster retrieved the camera, added, 'There are two huge teeth marks on the rubber focus rings of the lens and small teeth marks on the plastic lens hood, both of which I decided not to replace."

One question, how did you get those shots, since the lion was looking to make some memories her own? Did she manage to get the cubs to pose for her?

What are you suppose to do with the boxes that you receive your cameras and lenses in? I am trying to make a decision either recycle or toss them they take up a lot of space. The companies say to keep them but if you have to send a camera or lens for repair they tell you not to send the orginal box. Most companies tell you to keep the box that is almost anything you buy. Lost in a room full of boxes.

I tend to hang on to them through the warranty period, once that is past out they go. Since most of my current kit is Nikon, packaging for shipping isn't a concern as Melville is a 15 minute drive to drop off for service.

Now my toy train collection is another matter as it currently fills a half dozen filing cabinets and a greater number of large Rubbermaid containers, that however is a case of many boxes each with a Lionel Train engine, car or accessory within.

If you're a railfan you've got to have a passing knowledge of Lionel Trains. Met the lion a few times myself. Good one!

at any point?

Well maybe if I hit big in the lottery, along with a bunch of new toys, among them a Ford Mustang, 35' sport fisherman and a vacation home somewhere quiet and remote.

For the record, I’m quite happy with my D5100 and my recently acquired D750. So mirrorless is not in my future at any point. Just thought I’d share as I’ve been receiving emails from Nikon leading up to their “Big Coming Out Announcement”. Though various leaks and rumors do peak my couriousity.

42nd St. Photo is offering a Nikon D500 for $1449, that's $450.99 under the regular price. It is by far the best price I have found for the camera. However, I'm a little skeptical and not sure whether to order from them or not. I have heard some stories about gray market and bait/switch tactics. Anybody have any experience with them? Thanks.

Never, Never, Never go there.
