Camera and Lens Boxes

What are you suppose to do with the boxes that you receive your cameras and lenses in? I am trying to make a decision either recycle or toss them they take up a lot of space. The companies say to keep them but if you have to send a camera or lens for repair they tell you not to send the orginal box. Most companies tell you to keep the box that is almost anything you buy. Lost in a room full of boxes.

The boxes are assets when it comes to reselling the camera. They add value to the resale price and make packaging easier. (especially if you have kept the "eggshell" filling material).

I fill my attic with empty boxes.

I keep mine in a safe storage area. If moving or shipping equipment those boxes are invaluable.

I keep all my boxes collapsed in a closet. My wife buys enough online that I can always get free bubble wrap when I need it.

A room full?! You've enjoyed G.A.S. for many years, it appears

I stack 'em into each other, however fits best (are you good at jigsaw puzzles?), but toss after a couple of years. Linary has a good point about resale, though.

If you are concerned about resale value, keep the boxes. Me personally, I use my equipment until it is unable to be sold, so I recycle the boxes.

What do you do with your Twinkies packaging when you're done?

They are good to have if you have to send them in for repair.

I keep mine in the attic. They have been a big plus when I’ve sold the gear. This applies only to camera/camera related gear. Have to admit I was flummoxed when I had to send my Tamron 150-600 in for repair a year ago. Had ALL the original packing and was getting ready to box it up when I spotted the section in the directions that said not to.

For some bizarre reason, selling on Ebay with the OEM box will get you a better price. Go figure.

I eat them. They are just as good and just as nutritious as the Twinkies. Also, I don't anticipating reselling the Twinkies I eat.

I had to chuckle when I read your post as my part of the master bedroom closet shelves are stuffed with photography, especially lens boxes. I keep them in case, but am not sure in case of what? I did send a lens back to Tamron recently for calibration the packing instructions clearly state not to use the original box, but to use bubble wrap and use a shipping box. Go figure.

The shelves of one closet are stacked with gold Nikon boxes.
They will be there when I die for my kids to discard.
