Nikon pre-announces a full frame mirrorless camera with a new mount

Just received an email from Nikon with precious few details. It does say the new line-up will use a new lens mount and that there should be an adapter for existing lenses.
More to come I'm sure, just don't know when as no dates were given.

Nikon, Canon also, did not pay attention when Olympus-Panasonic, Fuji and Sony began to manufacture excellent mirrorless cameras. Several years went by and those cameras have been gaining in popularity to the point that professionals are using them. I have to assume that both, Nikon and Canon are now aware of the popularity of the mirrorless design and obviously they want a share. A little late I would say and I do not believe the new camera by Nikon could be as sophisticated as those made by Olympus, Panasonic , Fuji or especially Sony.
As has always been the case we should expect a premium price for that camera.

The same thing happened to WordPerfect when Windows was introduced. It stuck with it's DOS-based program as Word passed it by. I've been using WP for over twenty years.
It must have cost Canon and Nikon million to develop a new camera, and I'm sure neither company was eager to rock their corporate boat. Yes, unfortunately, the price will be higher than most people will be willing to pay. I will be surprised if the quality isn't as good as Sony and others are offering.

unfortunately, paying 2000 to 3200 for this camera , won't make me a better photographer. but, on the other hand. i am happy doing what i do with my cameras. and that is the object of this hobby

Sometimes waiting for a technology to mature and see what the acceptance is can be a better strategy. Product development is a major investment. Considering Nikon's reputation for quality products, it will be interesting to see the new camera when it's released.
