Yes to the new body. The question is: A sensor of 25 to 50mp? Or maybe still a 20mp sensor but with a global shutter? Or maybe even both more pixels and global shutter?!?

It may be the recently announced Sony dedicated M43 20MP, stacked, BSI sensor. Though recently announced, it has been suggested that it is already in production.

I see a lot of what I call herd mentality. People craving the latest best equipment and everybody rushing this way and that way as new cameras are introduced. Perhaps its a result of marketing.

I guess it's good for manufacturers when people to buy the latest gear.

Quite honestly I could afford the latest gear but given what I shoot, I don't see how that will improve my photography. I know some people will gain from the latest greatest features, and that is good, but I'm not one of them. So I'll just sit back and enjoy the show.

I just love the way some "phographers" try and force their views on others. "I don't want or need the latest camera, so you shouldn't either." They then use the tired old mantra "it won't make you a better photographer". No, but it will enable some of us to take shots that we might not otherwise be able to capture. Didn't think of that one, did you? How arrogant, to try and dictate what cameras we should be allowed to purchase. Well here are a couple of questions for you: Are you still using a Brownie 127, or a Practica Nova 1B? I'll bet your not. Has moving up to a DSLR or mirrorless made you a better photographer. If not, why aren't you still using a camera from the 1960's? Are you still watching TV on a black and white TV, or do you own a colour TV. What about your car, still driving a model T Ford. I doubt it.

I would like your thoughts on this subject. I always did this with my choice & it worked well. Saw video on this subject using Auto ISO. Also works well. Any comments will be grateful. Thanks, Allan

I use it virtually all the time for wildlife, the exception is macro/flash photography. Additionally, I have to say, the reply from CHG_Canon is spot on.

Don't blame you at all. I work on the principle that if I want it, and can afford it, then I purchase it. We are a long time dead. I've never understood this GAS rubbish. The R3 looks a bit tasty, so I hope it lives up to your expectations. I used to own an EOS 5 back in the early 90's. That, too, had eye AF - five read squares in the viewfinder, if I remember correctly: and it worked very well indeed. I loved that camera and used it alongside my Canon EOS 10.

I have the Cotton Carrier G3 twin and it is brilliant. I had the previous version, which was a bit good, but the G3 is superb. Your camera/lens combination is in a really comfortable position with no pendulum style swinging. Consider the twin holster set up as it allows a second large lens (with tripod mount) to also be carried. I use mine with an EM1X + 300mm and an EM1.3 + 200mm f2.8. No dreadful neck ache, as most of the weight is born on your shoulders. It is easy to actually run with two cameras and lenses on a Cotton Carrier twin because they are so secure.

Thank you everyone who posted to my Costa Rica Post. I went the less expensive route I decided to get a Dslr not a mirrorless camera.

I got the Nikon D500 and the Nikon 200-500mm 5.6 lens

I made this choice because I like the feel of the DSLR better then the Mirrorless I have big hands. I read a lot of good reviews about the D500 for wildlife paired with the 200-500 lens plus I have experienced how well the Nikon D3 worked for me a few years ago.

Yes a Sony A1 would have been nice or a Canon R5 but the cost was not worth it for me after I started to think what my purpose was fun photography. Out of my $10000.00 budget I still have $7500.00 left to buy other thing I may want.

So thanks again for the advice that you all presented.
Gary

Good choice on both camera and lens: I used to own both prior to moving to mirrorless (Olympus EM1X and EM1.3). I doubt you will be disappointed with your choices.

Hi to all ! Do you have and use either of these lenses?
Please make recommendations on the one to buy and reasons for your choice!
Thank you ,

I stood outside my favourite photography shop looking in the window at both lenses. Which one to choose? Not an easy question to answer. In the end I chose the Nikon 200 - 500mm and never looked back. Fabulous lens, f5.6 throughout the zoom range, takes a Nikon TC14EIII teleconverter and still produces great results when combined with a D500.

I have been fortunate to own several Sony FF mirrorless cameras, including: A7II, A7III, A7R4 and A9. I purchased an A7III for wildlife photography and required a companion camera. Having read that the A7II was also good for wildlife, I purchased one (at a very good price). After a few weeks I realised that it wasn't the camera for me. Perhaps others will disagree, but I found it inferior in every way to my A7III. The AF was just too slow and less accurate than my A7III. I sold it on and purchased an A9, so my A7III became the companion camera.

The technology is getting so good that we need to just point in the right direction and push the shutter button. Is this even photography or just computerized robots with very little innate sense of the use of light and individual input.

Are you using a plate camera with flash powder or something more modern? I started off with my sister's hand me down Brownie 127, I then progressed to a Parctica Nova 1B in 1970. I now use an EM1X and EM1 mark III. If OMD Solutions produce a camera significantly better than my EM1X I will sell my EM1.3 and purchase the new camera. I had to learn about the exposure triangle when using my Practica, which did not have a built in light meter. Why would I want to go back in time and reduce the possibility of obtaining fast action shots? I shoot my cameras on manual and RAW, but still use ProCapture and in camera focus stacking, which are brilliant aids, though still require a great deal of practice to use. As far as I'm concerned modern cameras are marvellous tools and no one forces you to use the auto settings: but for those who don't like them, there are plenty of film cameras available on the secondhand market.

Ok here's a morning vent....

I've got friends who love their Oly's and I will admit to liking the OM-1 in the day....and they are great camera's...but what is it about m4/3 shooter who always have to qualify their lenses with the statement "Shot it with a ###mm lens but it's really a ### in Full Frame". I for one, don't care to hear about the ff equivalency. I just like the image. On recent shoot with another Oly shooter, he had a new lens and I asked what it was...his answer it's a ###, but really it a ### at FF. Like I cared? a much simpler answer would have been it's a Zuiko blah blad......

Honestly 4/3 shooters be proud of your system no need to alibi your lenses to it's FF equivalent....LOL next time someone ask me about my Forester I'm gonna say it's really a Ranger Rover under the hood....
Ok here's a morning vent.... br br I've got frien... (show quote)

I own Olympus gear and never use FF equivalence when referring to a lens. I think you will find your "friends" are being influenced by YouTube reviewers who seem to be obsessed with equating M43 focal length to FF.

This could be interesting. Sony is producing a 47mp 4/3rds sensor. The real question is who will be using it. If it is Olympus and Panasonic, that is going to be quite a jump from 20mp to 47mp. This could require slowing down some of their frame rates as a trade off for megapixels. It will be interesting to see how ISO will hold up and how big the files get in high res mode (100mp JPEG / 160mp RAW files?). I may need a bigger computer.

Don't quote me on this; but I believe the 47MP M43 sensor is for commercial use such as CCTV. I don't believe we will see it in our EM1X replacement (crosses fingers in the hope the Wow! factor camera OMD Solutions have suggested is an EM1X replacement). Having previously owned a fabulous Sony A7R4 61 MP camera, I can state that it did struggle somewhat at higher ISO - nowhere near as good as my A7III or A9 in that area. With respect to computers, I had to factor in a replacement PC when I purchased my A7R4.

Need help - looking for those who had used it and changed and those who are using it now. Happy or?

The Olympus M43 is a brilliant system. I own the professional EM1X and an EM1 mark III. In the past I have owned 2 x EM1 bodies and an EM1 mark II. From those three, I move to Sony full frame mirrorless - an A7III, A9 and A7R4 - all fantastic cameras; but I swithced back to Olympus due to the weight/size difference. The EM1X is the top of the range model and has the best IBIS on the market, the fabulous ProCapture, in camera focus bracketting and stacking, in camera neutral density filters (digital) and 50MP handheld HiRes and tripod 80MP HiRes modes. It also has bird, plane, train and automobile recognition AI - the bird option is particularly good for BIF. The EM1.3 has many, but not all of the above options with the addition of an Astro photography option. The EM1X handles like a dream and is an ergonimic delight. The EM1.3 is quite a bit smaller, but is still very comfortable to hold - even with the 300mm f4. Olympus Pro lenses are optically stunning, and most are small and light: but even the normal Zuiko lenses are really good optically and very well priced. I own an Olympus Pro 300mm f4 + MC14 and MC20 teleconverters, a PanasonicLeica 200mm f2.8 + TC14, an Olympus 60mm f2.8 macro and an Olympus Zuiko 14 - 150mm f3.5 - 5.6mm. Even the latter lens, which is relatively cheap, still offers great performance for such a compact, light weight lens. I will not be changing camera systems and look forward to the release of the Pro 100mm f2.8 macro lens and the teased replacement(?) for the EM1X - which the new company, OM Digital Solutions, suggest will have a WOW factor. Anyway, that's my personal view of Olympus gear.

I was setup to buy the Sony A7R IV in another week or so when I was reading in Camera Review that Sony is coming out with the Sony A7R IVA. What the differences between the the two is hard to findout. I called Sony
on their prefered phone number for the Sony A7R IV and they said they had no information on the New IV A.
Should I wait for the IV A. Is this a new camera or just a rom update. I would feel terrible to buy the IV when
the IV A might sell for the same price. Also this not related to the above problem but I was thinking on getting a
new lens for the camera by either selling my Bolex H16 RX-5 or offering it to the camera store when I purchased the AR7. Which is a better way to go? The Bolex has been used since 1968 but is in good shaped. I have several ideas and looking for ideas. Anyone how has a thought on this please let me know.
Thanks in advance

The latest version has a new 2.4MP LCD rear screen. On a personal note, I found the low res LCD a bit annoying when trying to use it for macro photography - in both low light and bright light. I would not have changed my original A7R4 for the new version, but would certainly go for the A7R4A if I was purchasing an A7R4 for the first time.

Just intrigued to find out what we do use our DSLR/MILC cameras for? (don't count the "I wonder what this button does?" occasions when you accidentally find yourself with a video file)

I'll begin the survey with my "stats" - here they are:

Photography 100% Videography 0%

100% photography for me, even though I used to video certain types of events as part of my job. I would love to see OM Digital Solutions produce a pure photography version of my EM1X and/or EM1 mark III. Probably be a lot cheaper, too.

Any experience with purchasing used equipment from MPB Camera? Is this a reliable source?

I have purched two or three secondhand items from MPB UK, and have been more than happy. The last item was a Sigma 180mm f2.8 OS macro lens in mint condition. I paid £800 instead of £1300 for a brand new copy. I've found their online description of products to be very accurate.
