WELL,,, Well. I have 4 Olympus cameras... each is better than the other.
Used to have a time/share in Tennessee; near Cumberland Gap. Burned-up at least a ton of Film. Then I went to Olympus cameras; small, light weight and rugged.and not too expensive. And filmless !

I have four OLLY cameras; rugged, inexpensive and light weight! When we go on vacation, first thing I do is sling one over my shoulder. And now I have a record of where we have visited. I have entered several contests and won a few and lost a few.
Next time you are in your favorite camera shop--check out Olympus!!

I'm not sure what you mean but all Olympus cameras are "Mirrorless." Their "Big" cameras are the O-MD series

I own four(4) Olympus cameras, and have owned others which I sold, traded or gave away between 2015 and the present. There is no such thing as "entry level" with Olympus, at least not by label/name. From their "OM-Ds", to their "PEN" line they all take the same lenses, as well as some Lumix (Panasonic) ones. As you go up the line, in any series, what you get is different features depending on how you intend to use your camera. HOWEVER! That being said, the image quality can be the same on which ever model you choose.

As for feature set, I have yet to learn and understand ALL of them. There's massive menus available in every model, some complex, some simplified, but image quality is excellent across the range.

I have been using Panasonic cameras for a few years now (Switched from Canon dSLR).
They use the same Micro 4/3's lenses and sensor size as the Olympus.

Some things I love about my Panasonic are
- lenses are very light weight compared to SLR (my favorite is a Leica 50-200mm which is like a 100-400 on a full frame
- Some bodies are a lot more light weight like my GX8 but my main camera (G9) is more like an SLR body -- though still lighter than a Canon 7D
- The image stabilization is really good (on camera and on lens), I can take a photo in a dark setting at ~200mm at 1/10" and it is still quite usable (sunset roof pic below)
- Autofocus on my Panasonic is decent (it has animal eye focus and other modes found on most modern cameras)
- I like silent shutter mode, especially for street photography
- Video quality and features are excellent and nearly pro level features in terms of color grading and bit depth etc
- I can do a kind of focus stacking in camera where it takes a photo in all focal ranges and combines then I can pick the focal point on the touch screen (it is hit or miss though for some uses like windy day)
- I find the menus and creative options like multi-exposure, in-camera black in white etc to be more enjoyable to experiment with than my old cameras

I think Olympus is probably comparable to that experience, and the lenses are interchangeable between Olympus and Panasonic. I would recommend going to a store or trying some out to see if you like the feel.

You might also look at the Fuji line as well which a lot of people really love for a non full-frame mirrorless camera.

Some pics I've taken recently with the G9

Didn't Olympus announce their plan to exit the camera business last June? I realize that the lenses are interchangeable with Panasonic, so there is some longevity there, nonetheless I would be hesitant to begin investing in a camera company that will soon be nonexistent.

I just ordered a new recent model from a company that is rumored to have no future. Not concerned at all. I see those doomsday posts like yours all the time.

People fall for click bait “info” and then post it as if it has some substance. It’s an old pattern that extends waaaaaaay beyond this industry. There’s countless vulnerable folks involved in many varied endeavors. You’re certainly not alone as a target for such stuff.

They completed the sale in January:

OM Digital Solutions Corporation takes over Olympus's imaging business. The heads of sales and marketing and research and development for imaging products will be relocated to the headquarters of OM Digital Solutions Corporation. Production will continue at the existing facility in Vietnam, where Olympus manufactured imaging products since 2008. Existing customers will be supported, as OM Digital Solutions Corporation will provide customer support for the imaging products sold by Olympus.

To the OP: I enjoyed my Olympus OMD EM10 very much. I just purchased a used Olympus EM1 Mark ii to have newer/improved auto-focus and stabilization. I like the savings you get when buying "last year's" models I've only used an Olympus 75-300 mm lens with these.

But my Panasonic G7 is lighter weight and the 14-140 mm lens is small, lightweight and very versatile. A fun, fun camera with features such as rotating LCD so you can get low angle shots (especially vertical) without strain on the knees.

Prior to 2017 I had a Canon Rebel dslr.

Nope, they sold it to another company. Who just recently said they are going to keep up with the lens map that Oly originally did and plan on a "new" line of cameras. A lot of people think it will be a more water resistant version of their fantastic Pen F series.

I really don't know where to start. First, please take a look at MU43.com. Also take a look at the Olympus site which has a vast network of Olympus visionaries. Look up Robin Wong who is a blogger and expert in all things Oly.

Why do you want to go to Oly? What do you have now that is not working? The usual questions.

What are you going to do with this system? Looking to go small? Go mirrorless? Like the features of Oly (water resistant, IBIS, fantastic array of Pro lenses, etc.

I really do not want to write a book on this, so perhaps start there. You can also PM me.

Thinking of going mirrorless
Had a great video from Pangolin Photo Tours on youtube about the latest camera
Like the idea of the 2X crop- having a handhold able 800 would be great
Saving weight
