You might be better off using your smartphone.

I don't think you would see much difference between the Sony and the Tampon lenses. If you shoot a lot of wildlife, consider the Sony 100-400mm lens.

Anyone use the following?

iFootage Cobra 3 Carbon Fiber Monopod with Pedal-Release Mini Tripod Base; or alternate products.

Yes. Great item. I use it as a third leg (my legs are 1 and 2). I can use it with my camera in awkward positions I can't hold steady enough without it. It is also easier and faster to adjust than a tripod. Used it last month to photograph flowers at the Chicago Botanical Gardens last month.

At 600mm you are probably at f/6.3 or higher. I suspect your camera has only one focus point (if any) at that aperture. You need a better camera. Before buying another camera check how many focus points you will have available at f/6.3.

You would be better off with a full frame camera with a telephoto zoom lens--in both image quality and cost.

Anyone have some experience with X4 Circular polarizer filters, I've come across a couple articles about them giving them great ratings. I've used Hoya Evo & NXT on my lenses and have been happy with the results, I've just purchased Canon RF24-70 2.8 with 82mm diameter and since I don't have any filters this size I was looking at the Hoyas's and came across articles, Pop Photo one that gave Breakthrough Filters top rating and they're priced around the same ($169-$189 range.

Great. Never scratch. Neutral. Easy to remove.

Sony & Nikon & Canon put out 600mm prime lenses in the $13,000 range. I can get a Fujifilm or Tamron or Sigma 150-600 mm lens for $2000 or less. I would love to see the same distant object taken at 600mm with one of the primes and one of the lesser telephotos at differing levels of cropping to see the difference in detail/sharpness. Any website show this or does someone here have such photos? I am not expecting a dramatic difference as I understand you pay a high premium for incremental improvements generally. I am not planning on any $13K purchase (unless I win Mega Millions lottery), but just curious.

Autofocus speed and minimum focus distance will very in addition to weight. Nikon has the most options for long prime and zoom lenses.

I am making my Studio 100% portable. My camera is tethered, lighting is now battery powered and all that is left is a laptop.

I want to be able to show a client their pictures as they are being taken, do minor touch-up and give them a digital picture(s) on site if that’s what they want.

I would like to hear from anyone who has moved to portable photo editing on a Mac laptop.
I currently use Capture One Pro and Affinity on an old Macintosh desktop. What laptop did you go with 14” or 16”? M1 or M2? Pro or Max? I’m sure any of them are noticeably faster than my current box. Does a laptop have enough real estate to use for efficient digital editing?

Any comments will be appreciated.

I have an 13" M1 MacBook Air and an 16" M1 MacBook Pro Max. I use an OWC thunderbolt dock to connect the Pro Max to a BenQ photo monitor when I am home. The Pro Max has 64 GB of memory and a 4TB SSD, and is ideal for photo editing. The MacBook Air is useable but very slow in comparison. I greatly recommend and external monitor.

You dodged a bullet. Make sure the lens mount isn't bent on the lens. That is the weak spot and even a tiny bend angle will make part of your images out of focus.

FYI, Precision Cameras is Sony's main authorized and warranty service center in the USA, and the largest camera repair service in the world, performing authorized and warranty work for all brands including Nikon and Canon.

My experiences with Precision with my Nikon, Canon and Sony gear has been exemplary, with quality work done and returned promptly. It may have helped that I have been a professional member of NPS, CPS, and SPS in my career.
As long as Chrysler warranties their work, you should be fine.

And even though Sony has ended any further development of its A-mount lineup, if you have a lot of favorite A-mount lenses and still love your A-mount camera, continue to use it and be happy. Adapted A-mount lens will work Ok on E-mount with the adaptors, but not as well as E-mount lenses.

One of my good friends is Canadian photographer and inspirational Youtube visual creator , Rachel Lerch. She is an avid Sony A99II user and has resisted the urge to move to E-mount, and she does a great job with her gear.

You all should check Rachel Lerch out online, whatever gear you use.

I am considering Lightroom Classic as an upgrade to my current editing software. I also want to save my photos on an external portable drive. I have watched several videos and am confused. One said to first created a new catalog (got it). The confusing part is they said to bring over your external drive with already named folders into lightroom. Others say to create folders only in lightroom. Maybe I am missing the elephant in the room?
Thanks

The Lr catalog contains the location of each of your photos, but not the photos themselves. Once a photo has been imported into the Lr catalog, if you want to change the location where you store that photo, you must accomplish this within Lr or Lr will no longer be able to find it. When you move the photo to a new location within Lr, the catalog is automatically updated with the new location.

If you already have folders containing your photos on your computer, have not yet added those photos to the Lr catalog, and want to move those files to an external drive, it makes sense to move them before importing them to the Lr catalog. This would be the option.

If you have already imported photos into Lr before moving them to an external drive, you should move them by dragging them to the new drive within Lr. That way Lr will know where to find them.

I have both an M1 MacBook Air and an M1 MacBook Pro Max. The MacBook Air works fine with Lr, but if you use Ps as well as Lr, you will find things a bit slow in Ps.

For comparisons of any of the Mac laptops and desktops, check out the many comparisons in YouTube by searching for Art Is Right https://www.youtube.com/@ArtIsRight. He has compared every configuration on M1 and M2 Mac laptop and desktop, using apps such as Lr and Ps.
