For DSLRs, I maintain the D750 is the best mix of functionality and price, especially a lightly used copy. Paired with a Nikon 24-120mm f/4 VR lens, you're well-armed for 'tourism'.

For mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, there's a ton of options, probably none in your $400 - $600 price limit as the cameras are much newer and used copies less discounted. Your price limit probably has you looking only at used for any Nikon interchangeable lens camera. Other Nikon DSLR models include the D5xxx series or the entry-level D3xxx series, where the D5600 and D3500 are the most current (final) models in these camera lines. The for-sale section here, MPB, and KEH are great places to shop for used cameras. You'll find much more on ebay, with a bit more risk, due to the limited return options.

For pocket-sized 'tourism' cameras, I think Sony and Canon are much better options, with much more variations to find the technology mix that best fits your needs, including price, the Cybershot and Powershot lines, respectively.

How firm is your $600 top limit? If you look hard, you might find a D500 for maybe another $100 or so. It's slightly larger than the other options that have been listed, but has much more functionality, is more durably built, and will almost certainly have better battery availability down the road.

1 saw a Z6 body sell for $600 here in UHH. You can prolly hunt up a similar deal here or elsewhere. Shop around.

I've paid no personal attention to Nikon since film. I took the OP's request to include buying from a trusted source with at least some level of customer support. There were no D750s for sale at B&H between $400 and $600. My link above in post #2 was the best Nikon camera and lens at the price point.

Where would you go to find a "lightly used"D750 with a lens for between $400 and $600?

KEH didn't have any this evening either, when I looked. They had a higher end D800 in this range, where we'd expect a D750 to come in lower. I based my D750 assessment on personal experience and my personal ongoing analysis of the entire Nikon DSLR line; not on available bodies on Oct 9, 2023. I looked one place, ebay and the rest of the used market will certainly provide multiple comparison offerings of the suggested D750 idea. Our OP may be better served with other camera types and / or other brands. They asked after Nikon specifically, but with no specific details about what format camera ...

Right.

Possibly the best buy in that $$ range is a Sony a7II. Just hafta PRETEND its a Nikon.

The OP has not provided any rationale for prefering a Nikon. The opening post is a dumbassed question at face value. But if theres some rationale behind a Nikon-only search then that would put it in a different light. Perhaps he inherited some lenses ?

Actually, if you look about 6 posts up, you can get an idea of the whats and whys. Not a lot of detail, but enough to understand perspective and motivation.

Pehaps seeing some sorta rationale there ...

Will there be any sharing of lenses, flashes, other accessories ??? If lenses then format matters, which points to the D610. BH has two, right now, within the stated budget.

Its a bit smaller than a D500 but it has the same FX format as the D800.

OTOH, if theres no intent of sharing then theres again no rationale for Nikon-only. Further, involving the stated "walk around" purpose, FF might not really be the ideal, especially on a tight budget as well. M4/3 could very well be that.
