I had that same problem on my Epson sc7000. Turned out to be I had let the printer set too long and the ink had settled in the cartridge. I took each one of them out and shook them for at least a minute to fix the problem, which it did. Looking back the inkjet test patches, they were pale but otherwise normal.
Good Luck.

Yes, to print or not to print and what size and brand. Several things to take into account. I'm familiar with this question because I have come and gone with printing several times. First, the brand. Buy the one that offers you local support. Both Cannon and Epson are fine printers and you won't go wrong. Secondly, it's not the ink that costs so much, its the paper!! Fine art printing is an art form and the tuition to learn via experience is expensive. Take a class if you can. Maybe the company can recommend one. I had the epson 800 as a starter, it worked great and did have some tolerance for not printing every 3 or 4 days, but all of them require regular printing. I would suggest batching and printing weekly if possible, or at least turning it on to run through it's cycles. I did purchase the 24inch epson SC7000. Make sure which ever one you decide on has at least 10 inks and has both matt and glossy inks on seperate jets so you don't have to switch between those choices. Moving to the 17plus size means you really need to pay attention to paper profiles and understand all the nuances of printing. Be prepared to do test prints before committing to the large paper size. It will save you money and frustration.
Good luck

I guess my biggest frustration with Nikon Corp is once again exacerbated. About 10 years ago I bought a 600mm f4 lens at I believe was about $11,000. I hadn't used it for about 4 years, so decided to sell it. Took it to Bozeman Camera, had it priced, and discovered it was worth on $4,000 even thought it was in A1 condition. His initial remark when he saw the case, wow, how long have you had this??? He then checked and we learned the auto focus didn't work. What the heck!!! Learned it's common when not used. Repair price, $600 if Nikon hand any parts!!!! And, $150 shipping each way. Fact is I though a lens would last forever if you could attach it to the right camera, wrong!! How long should we expect a lens to work and have back up to repair it?? The new PF tech is great, which has depressed the prices of the older lenses in favor of weight and size advantages, sacrificing f stops. By the way, its been months and still don't have it back. So if I sell it via the shop he keeps a $1,000 plus repair and shipping, so I walk away with $2,000. Might as well keep it for a boat anchor!! I'll see how it works with my Z9 first.

I'm not into this type of photography because its really expensive with high tech equipment, you have to do it at night, usually late and I'm not sure what you can do with the images, other than a few prints. Having reviewed you tech material, I guess I'm wondering why the blurry images?? I understand the issues of looking through the atmosphere what with particulates, weather, temperatures, wind and other intermediate factors in space that are unknown. But, I can get this same image with my old fashion B&L spotting scope at 60x, visually. I haven't tried attaching a camera. Just wondering as a ole man hobbyist.

Live in Oregon and have been to the beach many times. You have capture a couple of my favorites, Merlin (pointed rock) in Bandon, and the Shore Acres with the breaking waves. Good job!!!!

We all have had a similar experience I'm sure. My problem is that I really don't see Nikon as customer friendly and am always suspicious of the financial motivations. (competing against their own dealers, shutting down parts to smaller repair shops, denying a repair based on: "the camera was dropped" even though hundreds of d600 had the same problem, and not communicating repair costs) I've just quit using them. I've said in the past and repeat here again, use "Photo Tech" just down the street from B&H. Ph 212-673-8400, address: 360 W 36 St, NY,NY 10018. Give them a call, they'll advise you to send it in, they'll give you an estimate of cost and a rapid turn-around. They will also repair "grey" equipment.

Nicely done on a really difficult subject to find the "right" composition and perspective. I've been the park over 8x in the Winter (until a combination of Park policies, unstable funding by Congress,(shutdowns) and the selling of the winter "over the snow bus" company to a virtual gorilla company made it impossible to use them,) looking for the -30 to 40 degree snow blown classic photo by Tom Murphy, taken at Soda Creek at -50 degrees. Tom Mangelsen also has a classic winter wind blown look I've spent a lot of time trying to find. Alas, not yet. Winters are just getting too warm to find those classic really cold shots.

Metal prints are really great for rich saturated colors. I did a pano of the Moulton barn and Tetons early morning, 6 ft wide. Awesome and durable. Clearly that glossy surface just pops off the wall. Pricey for sure, but a lifetime pleasure.

I have used Nature Photography Adventures for all of my regional and international photo tours for 10 years. Bob and Diane have extensive knowledge of Yellowstone NP, having provided tours there for many years. Not only do they know the entire park, like the back of their hands, they have a great depth of the geology, flora and fauna with backup plans B&C if their initial plan goes sideways. In other words, they are 110% professionals and the experience and photo/site knowledge to back it up. They can be reached at:

Its your image, you didn't take it for a wildlife/Nat Geo, do with it what you need to, to make it your own work of art. Add light beams, substitute the sky, add color enhancement. No one else will see it the way you do, or pp it the same way. Its art!!

I guess its the old adage, a great scene does not create a great photograph, the artist's vision does. So what were you feeling when you captured this scene? What was your vision of what it should look like and how did you plan to pp it to make me feel the same thing? I'm not feeling it yet. I find this scene very difficult, I admire your challenge and choosing the theme/focus of where to direct my eye. Clearly the clouds are a strong element competing with both the river and the mountains. I'm wondering if some dodge and burn to recede some elements and bring others forward might help. Good luck.

I too, really enjoyed your work. I've been to base camp, Mt Everest at 17,000 feet then up to view Everest at 18,000 feet in the morning. I trained at Manitou Springs, Co climbing Pikes Peak in preparation. In Nepal, we used Chlorine Dioxide for water purification at All Times on all Water, domestic or not. The lightening danger in Colorado is notorious, often killing unaware climbers, even in the absence of close storm. I hiker was killed on Pikes Peak standing on a rock above the trail in the open under clear skies, by a strike from a storm west of the mountain. Herds of elk have been killed in a single strike by traveling through the ground up one leg and down another. I always wanted to climb Longs, but alas, age has caught up, at 76, not going to happen.

I would invite you to give Easy Canvas Prints a try. 16x20 less than $20. I just had a 33x43 (outside frame) color print with a wood frame (additional fee) printed for $159.00. It is very nice. Wrap around is standard on the base price with a selection of different frames, optional. At these prices, I am really questioning my own printing price tag, particularly on the larger print sizes, considering framing etc.

Photo Tech on 34th in NYC, just down the street from B&H has very fast, reasonable full lens repair. The equipment necessary to reassemble a lens costs about $120K, so you have to be committed to invest such capital. They did a great job for me on a Nikon 80x400, faster and cheaper than Nikon offered.
