Speaking of Nikon, their profits are up about 48% over last year.

Isn't up the only way it could go?
Im happy that Nikon is doing well. But I have been photographing with Canon since high school. So how are they doing?
I follow Nikon as I own a lot of their gear. They were late to the party in re-organizing their business as volume dropped, but they got there by consolidating and choosing less costly manufacturing plants as well as cutting costs at corporate. They are still working on it as they build a newer, less expensive corporate headquarters and have started to rationalize their product lines as they discontinue obsolete bodies and glass. They discontinued products that compete with cell phones and have refocused on the enthusiast and professional photography marketplace. Nikon fell behind in mirrorless technology, but are now competitive. I am still frustrated with Nikon's long time habit of not being able to deliver newer, more popular products, on time or in quantity. Their slow rollout of Z glass is disturbing. Why Tamron or Sigma haven't picked up the slack is puzzling.
I came close to selling my Nikon gear for Canon, but held on hoping for a mirrorless camera that surpassed the D850, which I love dearly. The reason I didn't jump to the R5 was because of reported early overheating problems, or the A1 because of the price. My patience paid off with the Z9. I'm not quite as fond on my Z9 as I am of the D850, but it is growing on me. The damn manual is over 900 pages and it is not an easy read, but I'm getting there and I can use my dozen f mount lenses with the Z9 as I save for Z glass.

I used a friend’s Nikon. It was a nice camera. But I am still fond of my Canons. I haven’t leaped over to mirrorless.
There are two great resources you should look into. First, try downloading your user manual onto your phone. Second, look around for a PHOTOBERT Cheat Sheet for your specific camera.
I am trying to compare the Nikon D6 and the Canon R3. Both are worthy mirrorless and give more bang for the buck.

Did you mean to type Z6?
The last time I checked the professional D6 had a rapidly flapping mirror.

Yes, that is their stated strategy, which is why the Z30 makes no sense to me. But they are looking at Asian markets as well as the US and Europe, and they may see opportunities that we might not. I am a Nikon shooter, and wish them every success.
I wonder if mirrorless has anything to do with their profits.

The Z30 is targeted to the vlogging segment which appears to be popular.

Cutting costs, refocusing on higher profit margin cameras and glass for enthusiasts and professionals, and the Z9, their first competitive mirrorless camera, made them profitable again.
The Z30 is a vlogging camera, not a stills camera. Many influencers use Canon and Sony cameras to shoot their Youtube channels. Nikon wanted to compete in that marketplace. It's not something I would buy, but it gets very good reviews by vloggers.
