The 1.5 firmware update is now available for the Canon R6 (and R5 )..I was wondering if anyone has installed it on their cameras, and if there are any issues. When I look online, I see a few people complaining about focusing problems with some, but not all, lenses. They don't specify is it's canon lenses or third party. I called Canon support to check, they say they have no reports of any problems. The update has been available for about a month now. Just wanted to check before I installed it..Thanks for any info.

I own both the R5 and the R6, use them with a variety of Canon Rf lenses; I have not encountered any issues with focus on either camera. Actually, I have not experienced any issues of any kind.

Purchased the Canon EOS R, EOS R6 and EOS R5. These camera's will be the last purchases for the rest of my life. Indeed Canon seems serious about photography producing excellent cameras. Would love to see more lenses for the R series in the near future. If I were younger the R3 would it been perfect to photograph Gymnastics meets and college wrestling matches. Those who could benefit from the R3 should do their best to own it/or not.

Does anyone still use this software? They shut down so there is no support. I upgraded before they did because I liked it a lot. Now when I try to save it doesn't work, get a block over the video that says, "this software may be used illegally". Have tried several ways. Does anyone know anything about this?

I had the same problem about a month ago, and all I had to do was to enter the software key again as it was sent to me. I entered using low case and did not work but when I re-entered the key using capitals, it was accepted and the Illegal software message was gone. I did not delete anything nor re-installed the software.

Try it out. It work for me perfectly.

I recently purchased Canon 90D, which uses cr3 RAW files. I cannot view them in Windows File Explorer. I can open them in Photoshop Elements 19, but cannot view the thumbnails. I cannot use my Luminar or Photomatix either. The only program I've found to be able to view them is the 'free' faststone image viewer. Does anybody know when Microsoft, Adobe, Luminar and Photomatix going to update their softwear so we can open them?

You may want to invest on the program Rawfileviewer. It works very well with my Canon R files as well as M50, i use it and works better than any other free ap anywhere. RFV claims it can open 90D also, you can opt no to delete any file rejected until you are sure you want to delete it. It is on special for $14.99, i bought my copy for $19.99 , do not remember. Good luck and happy holidays to all UHH members

I have a Canon R (13months), with adapter, RF 24-105, RF 24-240, and a ton of EF lenses, My lens to go is the 100-400 II. I am currently taking care of my Mom(103 yo) but if I can be of assistance I may be able to help you clarify any concept I may be familiar with. I can only check this website sporadically due to my present circumstances. Best wishes.

I'll have to see what kind of battery life I get with my usage. A grip may be in my future but first I am going to try to keep the screen turned off as much as possible. Another possible bonus with the grip is that it could resolve balance issues for people who feel that may be a problem for them.
Canon is supposed to have said that they will not be bringing out an updated 5DS/R anytime soon, if ever. There is talk of a 75-100mp EOS R in the works instead. There is also talk of an APS-C EOS R in the works. If that is true, which seems likely, I would expect the 7DIII to be shelved in favor of an EOS R version. Pro versions of the EOS R are also said to be in the pipeline. Nothing has been officially announced but it all makes sense when you consider that Canon has paused development of EF L lenses and apparently DSLR's also. They appear to be jumping into the mirrorless market feet first, investing a lot of development time and money. That is significant and they will want a return on their investment. If all the stories are true then someone high up at Canon has made the decision that mirrorless is the future.

Thank you LFingar, for all the information provided. I do not open the flippy screen to save batteries; however, I do carry 2 additional batteries with me. Have a great day.

Ah, but if you spend some time setting up your camera to suit your style you WILL be able to spend more time photographing!

No doubt, the EOS R is always, ready, willing, and programmed to photograph. Thank you for your post. I have the camera ready for tomorrow, the order to B&H for a BG-E22 grip is on its way, Hopefully in February we may have the new Firmware being talked about. Perhaps the battery life may live a little longer; at least in my case. You are right, the end of the dslr is near. I wonder what will be of the Canon 7D iii? Have a wonderful rest of the day.

That would take over 320, 000 hours at about 3 minutes per setting. Maybe Canon engineers can answer that dilemma some day. I rather spend my time photographing.

For those who are mathematically inclined, using the following 6 buttons: shutter button (3 choices); Dialfunction button (40 choices); lcd panel illum. button (40 choices); AF on button (36 choices); AE lock button (40 choices); AF point button (25 choices). The product of all choices is a total of 3 x 40 x 40 x 36 x 40 x 25 = 172,800,000 possibilities. Yes, some choices are duplicated but the result is inconsequential since there are several other buttons not being counted and the count still will be in the millions if not billions. I am wondering if some of these combinations may cause havoc inside the camera. Just wondering

Well, there is definitely a learning curve compared to my previous Canons (starting with a T3i) and up to my current one, a 5DIV.
I was concerned about a "toy camera" look and feel. Nope. Even though it is noticeably smaller compared to the 5DIV it has the same well built, well finished look. I know, it's not as stoutly built or as well sealed, but the look and finish are fine. It fits well in my hand (which are on the large side) and all the controls are easily accessible.
There are fewer buttons. No "Mode" dial, for example. Instead, there is a Mode button in the center of the rear control wheel. Press the Mode button and you can use either control wheel or the touch screen to make your choice. The Mode is always shown on the top display even when the camera is off. Take the battery out and it goes away. Obviously it uses some power even when the camera is off. Canon recommends removing the battery whenever the camera is not in use for any period of time. Even overnight I would say.
A quirk that I noticed: There are 2 control wheels. On top, one towards the front, one towards the rear. In Av Mode the front wheel sets aperture and the rear wheel does nothing. In Manual Mode the REAR wheel sets aperture and the front wheel sets exposure. May be able to re-program that. Haven't checked.
Most of the control functions operate differently then on previous Canons. For example, on the 5DIV there is a dedicated ISO button. Push it and then use the control wheel to change ISO. On the EOS R you push the M-Fn button. This brings up a display with 5 functions to select from. You use the rear control wheel to select the function to change and the front wheel to make the change. Sounds inconvenient but after using it a few times it doesn't seem to be. Not to me, anyway.
Most all the buttons, wheels, and bars are customize able. Since I don't shoot video I use the Video button to instantly re-center the focus point/points. The * button I use to shift between One Shot and Al Servo. The M-Fn bar I have set to toggle between Auto ISO and 100 ISO. It has a safety feature to prevent accidental switching since all it requires is a touch. The bar doesn't actually move. It's just a touch sensor like a touch screen.
The menu is very similar to previous Canons and is displayed with a push of the Menu button, just like on previous models.
The LCD display comes on as soon as you turn on the power and stays on until:
1) The camera goes to sleep.
2) You reverse the screen.
3) You put your eye, or anything else, close to the EVF.
4) You disable it in the menu, leaving you just the EVF.
While the movable LCD screen certainly requires some care in using it, it doesn't seem fragile.
The new control ring on the RF lenses and lens adapter allows ISO to be changed by depressing the shutter release halfway while rotating the ring. Or, you can push the AF ON button located on the rear and rotate the ring.
The EOS R with the RF 24-105 weighs about 6 oz less then my 5DIV with EF 24-105 L IS (Earlier version, not the MkII lens).
Contrary to what some have claimed, Canon has not prevented the use of non-Canon batteries. The camera can use either LP-E6 or LP-E6N batteries interchangeably. I have 2 LP-E6 batteries that are at least 3-4 yrs old. One is a Watson and the other a Power2000. Both work just fine in the EOS R and display all the same data as the Canon LP-E6N batteries do. Same as in my 5DIV. No problems at all.
So far, even though there are differences, I don't find anything about the camera to be clunky or awkward. It will definitely take some practice to be comfortable with but I think I will find it to be quite user-friendly.

Attached is a jpeg I shot while sitting on the floor playing with the camera. I just set the camera on full auto to see what it would do in relatively low light. RF 24-105 lens. f/4.5, 125th/sec, ISO 8000. Focus point was the book titled "The Sword And The Shield".
(I know, I need to dust! My job since I retired, as my wife occasionally reminds me.)
Well, there is definitely a learning curve compare... (show quote)

Best way is to go out and put it through the grinder. One comment in my case, the EOS R eats batteries. I do not have the battery grip, I am ordering one as soon as B&H opens. I am posting a picture with the 100-400mm ii and the extender 1.4x iii, ISO 8000 f/8, no flash.

Yes, I broke down and pre-ordered one, with the adapter and the Nikon 500mm F5.6 PE lens specifically for my upcoming AL-CA-NE Photo Expedition. I an definitely NOT a mirrorless proponent having suffered through experimentation phase with the FF Sony products. But the commonality of this camera to my D850 paired with the light weight made it kind of a no brainer to me for my specific purpose on that trip. Plus it will still use all my F mount lenses as well, major versatility potential. Very much looking forward to getting and using both these products.

MT Shooter, regardless of Tony, Chelsea, Fro, Tattoo man from Kentucky, etc. have to say about Nikon ML; there is no doubt in my mind as well as yours that the Z6 and Z7 combo are magnificent cameras. One card is not the end of the world since most card failures are caused by human error anyway. Soon you will have the Z7 in your possession and without doubt you will never be sorry. Enjoy the Z7 and disregard all the nonsense from many people with nothing better to do. Have a fabulous photography trip. Way to go MT.
