I have a Canon R (13months), with adapter, RF 24-105, RF 24-240, and a ton of EF lenses, My lens to go is the 100-400 II. I am currently taking care of my Mom(103 yo) but if I can be of assistance I may be able to help you clarify any concept I may be familiar with. I can only check this website sporadically due to my present circumstances. Best wishes.

I’d love to see any discussion stay in the open where we call all see it, especially me since I’m really considering this camera but have some concerns.

Not sure if I can help you or not. Have the R, really like it, but still learning how to use it. Since getting it with the 24-105 and 24-240 and the R adaptor I have hardly used my 80D and 7D M II.

I have the control ring adaptor and not sure how to set it. have gone to the menu for the controls settings and it seems to have no effect on the ring.

I have the R as well as four RF lenses: RF 15-35 f/2.8 L, RF 50 f/1.2 L, RF 85 f/1.2 L and RF 24-105 f/4 L, as well as EF 100 f/2.8 L Macro and EF 100-400 L II. Bought the R almost a year ago. Sold off most of my EF lenses, as well as my 5DIV, and added the RFs along the way. If I can be of help please post your questions or PM me if you wish.

Since you have the 100-400 L II one thing you may find useful is the R's (and RP's) ability to use an extender such as the EF 2xIII with that lens and still have full auto-focus capability. Even my 5DIV couldn't do that.

Done any action shots with your R? I have read that it’s not really recommended for this but I want real world experience as I was told the Canon 6D was awful for action and I totally disagree. I’m getting into more race photography (People running) and won’t consider it if it’s not good for this.

Hi Philo, I just got my R a Few rainy days ago and have been Looking through the manual and tons of videos to set it up and really get the feel of it. I added mirror less to my camera inventory several years ago when I purchased the Olympus EM 5- at that time I was shooting a Canon 5d MK 111 but after lugging a 31 pound camera pack up to 11,000 feet (I was 72 years old) I decided that I needed a lighter rig. After several Asian and European trips, I was so impressed with the Olympus IBIS that I upgraded to the. EM I mkll I took that camera to Africa on a safari with a 300mm F4 lens and I was able to hand hold it down to 1/2 sec exposures and get really sharp images.

So why did I buy the R? In spite of all of the great things about the M 4/3 rig, I still need my Canon. FF for situations such as Low Lite Indoor sports Also, the FF is really great for cropping a small section of a shot and expanding it. I guess you would call that digital Zooming. So I found my self waiting for either a fall frame Olympus or a canon Mirror less with IBIS. I finally came to the conclusion that te Olympus would not go FF as that would lead to an entirely new system with a new mount. I think that the next version of the canon will likely have IBIS but that it will be significantly more expensive than the R So I decided that this is the time to jump in. Also, I have a very significant inventory of EF L lenses. and with the included adapter, I can use all of them on the R - Furthermore, with a Metabones speed booster adapter, I can use all of them on My Olympus system.

So yesterday I played with the R, Mounting my Canon 70-200 F2.8 L IS along with the Canon 2x tele converter with this combination, the auto focus was fast and very accurate

Ergonomically, I really like this camera and the way the buttons and dials are arranged. I shoot Manual and the aperture and shutter dials are very convenient and with one oriented vertically and the other horizontally it is almost impossible to mix them up when. the camera up at eye level, The EVF is crisp and there is no discernable delay. As with all mirror less cameras, what you see in the EVF is exactly the picture that is being sent to the system sensor.

The weather here in New England is improving and I look forward To getting out with this camera and taking some picturesr

Cheers
Tony

Here is an action photo taken with my EOS R with adapter and 24-70L. My 5DM4 is still my first choice for fast action, the R is certainly capable. Down side is jumpy images in EVF.

Tony have fun with your new tool. I too have a lot of ef lens for my 4 and the other thing that i like is that i can use the same batteries in the R.
Like anything new we have to enter into the learning curve. I have a Sony A6000 so I have had some hands on with the mirror less.
At my age it will take me a little longer to learn everything i need about the R, and i'm willing to make the effort.

I shot a basketball game recently mainly to try out a new lens. Overall, I am happy with the results even though I was concentrating more on the lens then on the camera.
