Pre-orders for Nikon Z1 already filled!

Nikons stated production of the Z7 camera is 20 thousand units per month. Production started a few weeks ago and shipping is still 3 weeks away. Demand appears to be at the same level as the D850, if not higher. Nikon just stated that pre-orders already received will not all be filled with the initial shipment. That means probably over 40 thousand pre-orders placed in the first 4 days since announcement. So much for lack of sales due to one card slot!

I wonder if there will be any new DSLR cameras coming from Nikon. I was hoping to see a D750 replacement. Both the D610 and D750 are getting old and should be updated. Does the introduction of the Z6 and Z7 mark the end of DSLR development from Nikon?

Tony and Chelsea Northrup tested the Z7 and were disappointed with its autofocus. It often did not properly acquire focus (models faces were out of focus) and did not work well in continuous tracking mode. They said the camera was a pre-production model and wanted to test again with a later production model.

Do you know if SS is on the pre order list?

It could be one of 2 things. Either demand is really that high, or they are taking time to tweak the cameras already built to improve on some things that folks who had preproduction units complained about. If the latter they may have felt delay was a better option than having customers do a firmware update on day one. I just read that initially the cameras will ship with an XQD card. Maybe that was a last minute decision and they have to go and slip one into 20,000 boxes.

If the FTZ adapter works as advertised this camera should be a hit. I have no intentions of buying one now having just received a D850. But by next Spring curiosity might get the best of me.

For the next month or so we have the freedom to speculate blindly, even if we don't have a clue what we are talking about. This is the internet after all.

Yes, I broke down and pre-ordered one, with the adapter and the Nikon 500mm F5.6 PE lens specifically for my upcoming AL-CA-NE Photo Expedition. I an definitely NOT a mirrorless proponent having suffered through experimentation phase with the FF Sony products. But the commonality of this camera to my D850 paired with the light weight made it kind of a no brainer to me for my specific purpose on that trip. Plus it will still use all my F mount lenses as well, major versatility potential. Very much looking forward to getting and using both these products.

To your first question, Yes! Nikon recently confirmed that.
The Northrup tested a pre production model. Others have said the AF is outstanding.Wait until the production units are available for real insight.

The spray and pray point and shooters who whine about the lack of 2 card slots must be rolling their eyes!

That's good. I was hoping they would continue with DSLR cameras.
I'm waiting to read reviews on the production Z6 and Z7 cameras. I'm sure Nikon will work at getting the autofocus issues fixed.

I would not base my opinion on Tony and Chelsea review, they had a very limited time with the camera. This is the review by the pro from Adorama, somebody who actually used the camera and he loved it.

Tony and Chelsea said many times they had a preproduction model and were anxious to get their hands on a final production model to do an in depth test. The Adorama review was more positive, but we also need to remember that Adorama sells cameras.

Five or six weeks and we should start get a true picture.

MT Shooter, regardless of Tony, Chelsea, Fro, Tattoo man from Kentucky, etc. have to say about Nikon ML; there is no doubt in my mind as well as yours that the Z6 and Z7 combo are magnificent cameras. One card is not the end of the world since most card failures are caused by human error anyway. Soon you will have the Z7 in your possession and without doubt you will never be sorry. Enjoy the Z7 and disregard all the nonsense from many people with nothing better to do. Have a fabulous photography trip. Way to go MT.
