Said it before, I'll say it again. You seem to be asking if MPs will make a difference in your landscapes. It is really about how much detail/sharpness do you want. Go here:

Wow, just had an upsetting situation happen on Instagram. I made a comment on a non photography post on Instagram and someone must have gone to my page, or what ever you call it, and looked at my photos. They then went on to say that many of the photos were not mine! They even said they had seen one on Nat Geo and was not mine and I was not giving credit! I responded to this person saying they were certainly all mine and the response back was there is no watermark and why do others names show up? Then proceeded to ask if I worked for Nat Geo.... I can only assume the other names they referred to are the people I tagged who were on the trip with me and I do not use a watermark, as many on Instagram do not.

This just really upsets me to be accused of claiming someone else’s photo! I did once again reply that I guaranteed that 1,000% they are all my photos and I was honored they thought my photos were Nat Geo worthy....

Best way is to tell them that the serial number of the camera is embedded in the EXIF data on the photo and the camera is registered to me. If they want to take it to court you have proof.

Why is it that photographers are obsessed with obtaining so many lenses? I only have 3 lenses that serve me well. I have owned them now for about 8-10 years during which I have bought 4 new bodies. My lenses are the Canon 10-22mm efs, the 24-105mm L EF, and the 100-300mm EF. During the time i have owned these lenses I have owned the Canon XT, the 60d, 70d and now the 90d bodies. But I have never had a desire to buy new lenses. Why would I? My 24-105 is my general purpose lens. I use it for 75% or more of my shots. The 10-22 is for when I have to go wide and the 100-300 is for sports, wildlife and general telephoto needs. I cannot imagine needing anything else other than maybe a 50mm prime with a large aperture. I don’t have a camera bag big enough for anymore lenses.

How many lenses do you own?

Well that explains it, you see in the Nikon world you have to have 30 lenses to be considered a photographer, I guess Canon has their advantages.

Now everything is an 'app' not a program or an application but an 'app'.

App was short for small programs on a phone now everything is reduced to three letters words... Could have been four but noooooo, just three, just like the ubiquitous finger salute to windows.

This dilution of our language (even if ESL for me) is dismaying.

When I started in the computer field and they told me I would learn to program in COBOL I assumed I was going to learn to work with radiation.

I have a D850 and I’m considering the Nikon 500 mm 5.6 for wildlife photography. I tried search for this subject with no results. I’m interested in hearing from any of you that have this lens. Pros cons or photos with it. How is the IQ?

Nikon 500mm f5.6 PF mounted on D500.

Thinking of a Nikon Z6 ll. Would like some input.

I have the Z6 II (as well as the Z6 and Z7), and the weight factor is really dependent on what lens you attach to it. You are talking about 24.87 oz for the Z6 II versus 34.57 oz for the D810 and if you attach the FTZ adapter to the Z6 II you add 4.8 oz so the weight savings is negligible. After all of the couple of oz that you save you are liable to attach a heavy lens which changes the weight distribution. Even the premier S lenses are heavy, I have the 24-70 f2.8 S and the 70-200 f2.8 S and they are quite heavy.

The (ring-billed) gulls fly pretty close to land near the dam, so very little cropping applied at 300mm.

Comments/critiques welcome.

Question : does spot or center-weighted metering work better than matrix metering for BIFs when single point auto-focus (continuous) is used? I know, experiment ... will do :-)

I live in Cary as well and spend a lot of time at the dam, great place for ring neck gulls, blue herons and black vultures. I want to photograph the eagles when they come to the open area. I like your shot, I was there a week ago and got almost the same.

There have been several posts lately in which the term "get it right in the camera" has been expressed. This seems to be expressed mostly by those who abhor processing.

Photography is and always will be a two-step process. The first being capturing the exposure. The second is processing that exposure to make a "print".

Those who rely on the 'in-camera' applications to produce a "print" are the equivalent of sending your film to a lab and having someone else do the work. These are the snapshot fans. Their main goal seems to be operating a shutter button.

The photographers, on the other hand, have an understanding of the mechanics of capturing the scene with the final "print" in mind and what it will take to achieve that "print". They understand the placement of tonal values and the process to achieve their visualization of the scene. Their "getting it right" is quite different.

So, here are a couple of examples of my "get it right in the camera". Each was taken with a different camera but the goal was the same, the final "print".

I like to think of it as people who used polaroid cameras in the day versus people who shot film and processed it in their own darkroom.

OK what is better?

I have both cameras (plus the D850 and several more). The Z6 II is great for portrait and the D500 is great for wildlife. That said I have native glass (S) for the Z6, Z7 and Z6 II and have high end glass for the DSLR's, I normally shoot wildlife with the D500 and the Nikon 500mm F5.6 PF and on occasion I use the D850 as well with a TC. For landscape I will use either the D850 or Z7. I plan on selling the Z6 and Z7 to fund the Z7 II in the near future. I don't believe in the weight savings on the mirror-less cameras as it all depends on the glass you put on the camera, however one advantage between the D500 and the Z6 II is the crop factor for full frame lenses.

Contacted Topaz via e-mail. Yazi Saradet responded " We are currently in the process of updating all of our products to function with Big Sur. No word on when the other products may be updated.

I wonder why Apple creates updates that negate applications people pay money for?

It is the same with Luminar AI or 4 as a plug-in Photoshop 2021 filter on Big Sur, it will not work as 16bit images. Also Nik collection does not work under Big Sur.

Be wary of using the plug-in for Photoshop 2021 filter running on the Mac under Big Sur as 16bit images will not work in Luminar AI or 4 as a plug-in.

On the Mac operating system Big Sur the plug-in for Photoshop filters will only work with 8 bit images for Luminar AI and 4, it will not work with 16 bit images and I was told a month ago by them that they are working on it. To me this is unacceptable.
