Contacted Topaz via e-mail. Yazi Saradet responded " We are currently in the process of updating all of our products to function with Big Sur. Sharpen AI version 2.2.0 or higher, DeNoise AI version 2.3.3 or higher, Gigapixel AI version 5.2.3 or higher, Mask AI version 1.3.6 or higher have been updated." No word on when the other products may be updated.

I wonder why Apple creates updates that negate applications people pay money for?

It is impossible to make all step-ups to a new OS compatible with all previous versions. If they were we would bee terabyte drive just for the OS and the system would probably crawl. Going from 32 bit to 64 bit is a huge step and was announced by Apple long age (about 2+ years I think.) and many third party vendors got on the ball updating their products. In other words...Don't blame Apple blame Topaz.

I know. I hate that newer computers won't take my floppy disks (neither 3½ nor 5¼)

Apple shouldn’t worry about other companies products, they are in business to provide the best version of their operating system. It’s up to other software companies to keep improving their product and make it compatible to Apple’s system along with Windows systems and Linux.

Apple is concerned with Apple products.

The operating system always leads everything else. How could it be otherwise?

Topaz products have been 64 bit since the start of the first Topaz Studio for Windows. The fault isn't Apple or Topaz's. Apple, just like Microsoft develops their operating system for as much backwards compatibility as possible, but cannot be responsible for the apps that will run on its operating system. Most software developers use beta versions of the upcoming OS to start their updates for compatibility, but can't complete them until the final OS version is released. Unfortunately, Apple and Microsoft don't tell you to check with your app vendor before moving to their latest new OS for compatibility. I spent over 30 years in IT and it was a constant battle to get some of my clients, who wanted to jump on the next new thing immediately, to understand that they needed to wait until the app developers had the time to make the changes to their software for compatibility. Sort of like which comes first, the chicken or the egg. In this case, it's the operating system. Most app developers will state on their websites if their software is compatible with new versions of operating systems. So check before upgrading to save yourself some grief.

It is the same with Luminar AI or 4 as a plug-in Photoshop 2021 filter on Big Sur, it will not work as 16bit images. Also Nik collection does not work under Big Sur.

As I recall, opening any 32-bit app on my MacBook Pro caused a warning from Apple, starting about a year before the release of Catalina, telling me the program was not compatible with their upcoming operating system.

Stop and consider that millions of apps use Apple operating systems. Do you really think it is practical for Apple to try to accommodate them all?
