I presently have a Nikon D810 and an assortment of lenses. I am getting old and it is just to heavy. I have been
Thinking of a Nikon Z6 ll. Would like some input.

If weight is the issue, remember that the system weight will be driven largely by the lenses. The body may be a little lighter but if you plan to use your existing lenses (plus the adapter), then the that weight may not be much different. What will lighten your load is to move to a smaller format, such as APS-C, but you’ll need to use DX lenses to take advantage of the reduction. My Fuji APS system weighs about half what my FF does and while about a stop worse in high ISO low light performance, it’s performance is so good that I use it much more except for critical work.

Another thing will help is to move from zooms to fast primes. Less convenient but often half the weight (or less) for equivalent FL, faster and sharper.

If you can't physically handle any of the candidate bodies at a local camera store or big box, consider renting a candidate from an online outfit like LensRentals or BorrowLenses.

Your 810 to Z6 isn't a big change. I have a Z7 and it's certainly a smaller lighter body but because it's still FX format the lenses are the same and in the end it's the lenses more than the body that account for all the bulk and weight. As a result I more frequently grab my Fuji XT-4. The 16-55mm f/2.8 on the Fuji is still big glass with a constant aperture and it seems more solid than the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8. At 8 oz. less weight it's substantially smaller. But then I also have the good old Fuji 18-55mm f/2.8 - 4. I'm now down to half the size of the Z7 with lens and nearly half the weight. That's a difference I really feel. The Z7 is my least used camera.

Nikon Z7 with 24-70mm f/2.8 = 54.5 oz.
Fuji X-T4 with 16-55mm f/2.8 = 46 oz.
Fuji X-T4 with 18-55mm f/2.8 - 4 = 29.5 oz.

So what about a m4/3 camera and everything shrinks some more? I haven't told you yet about my most used camera. I had to take some photos today. I grabbed my most used camera as usual because it usually get's the job done -- a 1" sensor Canon G7 compact that fits in my jacket pocket. I use it a lot because it fits in my pocket.

I have the D800 and have recently added the Z6.

Technically a great camera and of course the Z6II has what some will consider more improvements.

What annoys me about the Z6 is the smaller less pronounced controls. For me I can only actuate the 'cursor' by using my fingernail, not ideal when you want speed of adjustments.

One other thing I can't understand is that with the brilliant 'focus shift' function they never thought of allowing the ability to see what you are shooting prior to pressing the shutter and firing off the set of frames. Just think how great that would have been for hand holding macro shooters taking live bugs

I have the Z6. It is true if you use your old lenses and adapter you won’t save much weight. The Z lenses are lighter, though. The new 24-200 is awesome.

But if you really want to save weight the Z50 is awesome. Almost pocketable with 16-50 DX lens. I find myself grabbing it more often than my Z6.

You mostly control both of them with the touch screen. I have no issues with wheels.

I have made a wading approach to mirrorless, I do own a mirrorless (brand unimportant) but have retained all of my current Nikon gear as I have an assortment of lenses.
I got the mirrorless for wildlife photography, I only own the big primes and zooms, so all of my other photography will be done with my Nikon gear.
As time goes on I may start to sell my Nikon lenses and get more mirrorless. But for now I have my feet firmly planted in both systems.
You might want to consider this approach and as it turns out you find mirrorless not to your liking, you can resale it and go back to you trusted Nikon D810.
I am 72 and have no issues with my D850 and 200-500 5.6 lens.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

Check out the Nikon Z50 - lots of bang for the buck. At a minimum, buy it with the 16-50 kit lens and an FTZ adapter for your F mount lenses. Although I'm not concerned about weight, I am impressed with the perfomance, features and image quality. Also, I have to say it's just plain fun shooting with it.

Try the f4 zooms for the Z cameras, both the wide angle 14/30 and the normal 24/70. These lenses are small, very light weight and incredibly sharp. I love them. The recently released 70/200 f2.8 telephoto is however neither light or small, but it is fantastic. While I could afford the f2.8 versions of the wide angle and normal zooms I plan to stick with f4 versions, the size and weight advantages outweigh the additional stop and there is little discernible difference in the sharpness.

There will be a slight reduction in weight. If you are using the f4 kit lens too, then a little more. But using the FTZ adapter and the AF-S lens negate most of the weight loss. Real weight saving comes with MFT cameras and lens. Smaller, lighter, and if the small sensor is not a problem, you will enjoy excellent pictures and a much smaller and lighter backpack.

If weight is the problem, go mirrorless. If you are happy with Nikon buy Nikon.

The Z6ii is a great camera as is the D810. For a real light camera look at the Z50. It's a wonderful little camera.
