I just wanted to be the first person to entertain a discussion about how terrible the new Canon EOS R is compared to Nikon, Sony and every other mirrorless camera in the world. You know it's coming, so let's jump in!

Dear Mr./Ms./Mrs Troll Roche,

Please stop stirring the pot. That pot can get hot and we wouldn’t want that fire underneath to singe those beautiful long locks of yours.

I know that Canon is calling the shots here. But ADORAMA knew, I repeat knew, when that price would change. They could have said "only xxx days left" or something. But they didn't. As I said in my text "don't preach Adorama to me". I will probably buy from the cheapest guy in Hong Kong and take my chances. Screw Adorama and all such "respectable" dealers. Life is a crap shoot anyway, and the bottom line is there are no guarentees!!

I certainly understand your upset but sometimes a sale happens and we miss it. That said, you just seemed to answer your own question and are willing to take a risk. It seems your post is less about a question regarding this non authorized dealer and more about wanting to gripe about Adorama. I am also thinking this because why come to a forum to ask about this seller when you clearly have access to the internet and thus can google to find all the info you would ever need right at your fingertips. Sorry you are smarting over missing a sale. Buy refurbished directly from Canon instead, celebrate your smart buy over a few drinks with friends and forget about your misfortune with Adorama. Life is too short. Cheers🍺

Looking into an a7R iii camera but leery about limited lens availability... advice anyone???

Limited availability?? Certainly not! I have the a7 iii and love it. I have the amazing Sony 24-105 f/4 G. Also have the Sony 50mm 1.4 which I love as well. Many other great lenses like the 24-70 f/2.8 g master, 85mm f/1.4 g master, 70-200 g master, etc. My next one will be the 12-24mm f/4.

I moved from the Canon 5d iv. Sony has finally done it right.

https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/canon-eos-r-officially-announced-claims-to-have-worlds-fastest-autofocus-system/

Canon PROS:
– World’s fastest autofocus
– Full compatibility with existing EF lenses
– A cool adapter with drop-in filter (see this cool video by Caleb Pike)
– The new EOS-R lenses are focus by wire and have an extra customizable ring
– The new EOS-R lenses are stunning (50mm f/1.2 and 28-70mm f/2.0)
– It has 10 bit 4:2:2 output just like the Nikon Z
–$2299* for the body only. It will also be sold as a body-and-lens kit with the new RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens for $3399*.(actually more expensive than similar competitors)

Canon CONS:
– lack of IBIS
– single slot card
– Low battery life: 350 shots
– The EOS R does have eye-AF but only S-AF. (info via Jordan Drake)
– It uses the same “Old” 30MP sensor from the 5D IV (with more phase detection pixels added)
– The cool lenses are expensive: RF 50mm f/1.2L at $2,299, the RF 28-70mm f/2L at $2,999
– Roadmap doesn’t disclose what lenses we can expect
– The dial on the left is just an ON-OFF button
– Canon will not be opening up the RF mount specs to third parties (info via Jordan Drake)
– No AF-C in continuous high drive (slower FPS compared to Sony cameras)
– Still a huge ass crop in 4K recording (1.6 crop). Looks the same as 5D IV. Heavy rolling shutter as well. (info via Jordan Drake)
– 1080p does 60fps and not 120fps
– no compatibility with their EOS-M lenses

What do you Canon folks think about this? What do you Nikon and Sony folks think ? Is anyone excited to buy this, or will you stay with your present brand and cameras?

Now, line up the Sony a7 iii or a 7r iii against this canon. Do those cons apply to the Sony series? How about the pro’s? Seems like some will apply nicely here. Pricing is certainly better, even for their top g and gm lenses. Add in the sony has adapters for 3rd party lenses and has finally added somevery fine native lenses.

I just switched over to sony from canon and am very impressed. First when i heard canon was releasing a mirrorless fullframe i wondered if i made a mistake even though I am quite happy with the sony a7 iii. Now, looking at the spec’s, i certainly dont think i am missing anything.

I hope Canon has success but right now, sony has the upper hand over them and Nikon. Ultimately competition is good.

After about three more tries with the same exact info, entered ... and the same thing happening, I gave up! ... Where are they, anyway? Anyone know?

I am not sure where they are located but can tell you I have used the their service twice without any problems. I have purchased two camera lenses through them and have gotten about a 25% discount when you include sales tax. The price you get through Greentoe is inclusive of sales tax.i would recommend their service.

This is my first posting so I hope I don’t violate any rules.

Last night I dropped my Nikon d80 and it is no longer working! I was planning on getting a Nikon D7500 in October so this just pushes me to get it sooner. I found a good deal on Abe’s of Maine and was wondering if anyone has purchased from them.

Thanks.

Three things:
1. Are you ordering a d750 or d7500? The title of your post says d750 but the body of your post says d7500. Both are fine cameras but one is full frame while the other is aps-c.

2. If you are looking at buying the d750 then you may want to consider the Sony a7 iii. I just made the leap from a canon full frame and OMG, I love the Sony. I had a Sony mirrorless once before but ended up saying never again. The new Sony a7iii is an entirely different animal.

3. All you have to do is google Abe’s and you will quickly find out they are no good. Avoid them like the plague.

If we only bought what we needed, Mercedes would be out of business and there would be a waiting list for a Hyundai.

I have only belonged to a few forums aside from UHH, photo, auto, and woodworking. UHH is the only one where folks try to save other people's money. On the others everyone was encouraged to get the best they could afford.

Different strokes for different folks.

I think once someone puts a question out on a board they are looking for multiple views, in addition to their own, and they make their own decision. My opinion is that given the type of photography he will be doing, he can get just as nice results at a lower price point. To me spending over $12k is overkill for how he will use it. Others will say something different and that is their perogative.

Could have sworn that in one of his replies the OP said his wife now decided they will both use Nikon. For one reason is they already own more Nikon lenses.

Somewhere along the way there was something about the business buying it because he takes over 100 picture a day for business.

Yes, you are correct. I just saw they are consolidating onto Nikon.

Even if the business is buying it, it is still way more than needed IMHO.

I am looking for advise. I am not a professional. I currently have a D7000 and wife has a Cannon 7II.
She is more of a looking for the perfect or best picture when we travel and I more of a snap and click , I have decided to slow down and take better and fewer pics while traveling.
Now here is the issue , I want a Nikon D5 and Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2G ED VR II lense , she wants me to buy a Sony A9 body and lenses .
Any advise . And I take pictures of whatever . I am in the repo business . And take a few hundred pics a day of all kinds of stuff , in both low light and sunshine . Been using phone camera , but want to use new camera for work , to justify the cost

Apologies, I do not mean to offend in any way but I don’t get why you would get a D5 and the 200mm f/2g lens. That is well beyond overkill given how you will use them. I can’t even wrap my head around it. It’s such an overkill that when I read it, I thought you were joking or being cocky because you are in the position to spend that kind of money when you really don’t need to. I have been known to splurge when I have it but never like what you are suggesting. I recently spent about $3600 on a canon5d iv/24-105 mm f/4 combo and considered that a huge splurge. There are so many great cameras/lenses out there that don’t come anywhere near costing that much. The only suggestion I would give here is that you and your wife consolidate onto one manufacturer to share lenses. Other than that, live long and may you continue to prosper.

I presently have a D5100 W/ Nikkor 18-55, 55-300, and 35mm lenses and a Sigma 105mm macro lenses and SB 400 and 600 Speedlites. I'm thinking of getting either a D7200 body or a Tamron 18-400 lens. Which way to go first? I photograph mostly scenery and flowers.

First, here is a comparison of the two cameras, d5100 vs d7200:
https://cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-D5100-vs-Nikon-D7200

I would normally say to go for better glass but in this case I would question whether or not this lens would actually be classified as “better glass”. More convenient? Yes. Better? Hmmm...

In looking up both the d7200 and the Tamron glass, I saw the lens goes for $650 and today nikon is selling refurbished d7200 for $700. In my mind refurbished from Nikon are like new. Go handle the d7200 in person, if you havent already, and make sure you like the way it feels in your hand. It is a bigger and heavier camera than what you have. If it feels good, I would go for that vs the lens.

If you bought the lens via Canon, then it was done online. As such you can log into your online Canon acct and print out the receipt/record of the purchase. How long ago did you purchase the lens?

UV filter since day one, lens shade, perfect glass.

No box and no paperwork. Where did you purchase if from? Can you provide the receipt? If you ordered it online, is it possible you have the receipt in your email?

If you google reviews of both stores’ names, you will find they should be avoided due to their sales practices. Do yourself a favor and stick with B&H , Adorama and other stores mentioned.

I know the D750 is a great camera! And I know the current sale price of about $2000 (including 24-120 lens and $400+ of extras) is a fantastic price. My questions: Is it worth spending $2000 on four year old technology? Does the current technology significantly improve things such as dynamic range, ISO performance, focusing, etc. for this price, in a full frame camera?
Your thoughts are appreciated.
Steve

For the money, there is nothing better than the nikon d750. I use to own it and really liked it. I have the Canon 5d iv now because I was lucky enough to get a great buy ($2415 new by a stroke of luck) and the money to afford it. There is something I love about the Canon that fits me perfectly but if I did not get lucky on price then a nikon d750 it would be. Did try Nikon d850 but didnt work for me. The canon fits me like a glove. Always should handle the camera before deciding on purchase. How a camera feels in your hands is very subjective no matter what the specs are.
