What can anybody tell me about redtagcamera? They have a good buy on a Canon 77D, just want to make sure it is what it seems to be. Don't preach Adorama to me, those schmucks raised the price from 650 to 799 overnight !!
Isn't part of being an authorized dealer mean selling at list price (although i think you are allowed to add in freebies or discounted items). Canon might have a refurb or open box 77D. Amazon may have a 'ware house' deal too.

Often Adorama and other qualified dealers will be authorized by Canon to offer promotional pricing for a given period of time. When the promotion is over the price goes back up to the amount authorized by Canon. Adorama has very little control over the retail pricing. I recently was able to take advantage of a promotional price for a Pansonic Lumix FZ-1000. After the promotion was over, the price of the camera was raised by $200 as I recall. I just noticed that the price has once again been lowered.

Yes you have to adhere to Canon's pricing system to be considered an "authorized dealer". You are also correct that adding in freebies is an accepted practice. There are other ways around the conditions but from further investigation, it's apparent despite having a very high eBay rating that grey market is their typical MO. Canon seems to be liberal with repairs but under warranty there isn't any obligation that repair is covered free of charge and it up to their discretion to repair. That doesn't seem like a promising attribute if you expect a manufactures warranty.
RedTag also stipulates a 30 day return policy but buyers remorse may encourage a 10% restocking fee. It seems that 10% fee has been disputed by more than one customer. The big stores have a 30 day returns with just shipping charges applied. Also I believe there is a limitation on shutter actuation.
I would encourage the buyer to contact the seller directly and if there seems to be any area of grey (pun intended) after asking many questions, maybe look elsewhere.
Most of the time, you do get what you pay for and camera scams are as frequent as mosquitoes in the summer.
Canon USA has refurbished 77D for $630 in stock.
Prices are pretty much set by the manufacturer from an authorized dealer. I just ordered a Sony 18-135 lens from Amazon, which was fulfilled by Adorama. The lens was 498. Two days after the order it was was listed for 598. Seems Sony was running a special rebate on the lens for just one week. Glad I got it when I did.

I know that Canon is calling the shots here. But ADORAMA knew, I repeat knew, when that price would change. They could have said "only xxx days left" or something. But they didn't. As I said in my text "don't preach Adorama to me". I will probably buy from the cheapest guy in Hong Kong and take my chances. Screw Adorama and all such "respectable" dealers. Life is a crap shoot anyway, and the bottom line is there are no guarentees!!

Not preaching anything, just relaying my experience. I really don't care what or where you buy.

Thanks for your input. I know where or what I buy has no meaning in your life, or most anyone else's life. Just the same I vented, and you replied. So I feel a little better.

I don't know about Canon but I know Nikon didn't notify how long the sales last. At one time they were selling the D810 for $2500 with a free battery grip and the D750 for $1500 also with free battery grip but the raised the price overnight too.

It looks like schmuckiness is catching. Now, everyone is selling that camera for $799. Canon set the prices for their cameras. If someone is selling a camera for a significantly lower price, stay away!
