Looking into an a7R iii camera but leery about limited lens availability... advice anyone???
Have the 70-200mm f.28 lens & just a couple of others. It is an outstanding lens and is highly recommended. Unquestionably, it is expensive. But that can be your workhorse & unless you're a professional you may not need much else.

The notion of 'limited' lens availability for Sony FF is a bit out of date. What lenses do you think you need? Check here for list of available FE mount lenses
https://briansmith.com/gear/lenses/The first lens you should get for a A7Rii is the Sony FE 24-105mm F4.0 G OSS. It is an outstanding lens, you may decide you don't need any primes in that range. If you want something very long you may need to go for a third party manufacturer, but there are now several good adapters to choose from.
I have the 24 - 70 mm and it is a wonderful workhorse. The 100 - 400 is just fun.

Limit, endless, with adapters I can shoot just about any lens ever made. Native glass is growing yearly, just added a 400 2.8. The native glass is some of the the best, some of their native Zeiss lenses are considered the sharpest in the business. The G series is tops.
I recently sold my Zeiss 16-35 f2.8 (A mount) and retired my workhorse 28-135 Minolta lens (also an A mount). They were replaced by the full frame E mount Sony 12-24 and 24-105 f4 G Master lenses. Excellent lenses! The Sony 100-400 is on my list and is another world class lens.

The notion of 'limited' lens availability for Sony... (

I completely agree--Sony offers a full range of quality lenses, and there are a number of third-party providers who offer native full-frame lenses, like the outstanding Zeiss and Sigma Art lenses. I also agree that the Sony FE 24-105mm F4.0 G OSS is an outstanding lens and the first lens anyone with an A7 should get. I got it with together with my A7 III and its IQ stuns me every day. I also agree that Brian Smith has the best list of full-frame lenses for the A7 series, but the more complete list is at this link:

You should make your own decision based on as you say limited lens availability. It's your dime don't let anyone else spend it.

That's a thing of the past.
There is no such limitation at this point in time. Sony has just about any focal length you may want up to 400mm f/2.8. There are also some third party lenses available.
Search on e-mount lenses.

Limited! Have you viewed the Sony, Sigma and Tamron websites? If you are up for using the Sigma or Metabones etc. adaptors, you can choose from anything in the Canon EF range.

These lenses are recommended for Sony E-mounts.
Beware: four of the five links are from 2015 or 2016--that is they are two or three years old. That's is an eternity in Sony time. None of them list the exceptional Sony 24-105mm, for instance. The only exception is the fine guide by Brian Smith--he updates it on a regular basis.
https://briansmith.com/sony-a7-a7r-a7s-lens-guide/I am not arguing that Brian Smith gives a comprehensive review of each lens. But he gives a very useful summary of what is out there.
I use an Alpha 7S which only has 12mp, but the pixels are quite large to give the ASA range from 100 t0 408,000. Quite effective for low light.
I do not go above ASA 6,000 99% of the time.
If you have good lenses already, you can certainly buy an adapter that will work on the 7Riii.
I use prime lenses, and the camera has a built in zoom up to 4X. I don't go above 2X, as I feel that it compromises resolution.
I acquired Leica M lenses (solid and compact and great glass) over the years so I bought a Novoflex adapter which is as solid as the Alpha.
They are all primes (from 21-135mm; F2.0-4.0) and manual focus and F settings. To go to auto focus for my lenses, I could trade up to an Alpha 7Siii. BUT: !!! It is a bigger and heavier body, which are not pluses for me.
Between Sony's own lenses and third-party lens makers there are actually over 70 lenses available for fullframe Sony E-Mount ,with more about to be introduced in two weeks. Really, count them. I own both A7RIII and A7III and have ten Sony and Sigma E-mount lenses from 10mm through 600mm plus 1.4X and 2X extenders. What more do you need ? I kept one Canon lens when I switched after 40 years a Canon user. I kept the Canon 17mm f4 Tilt-Shift lens. I use that with my Sigma MC-11 adapter for architectural work. Cheers
