I'm a Nikon guy, but I think you should be able to use that flash in manual mode if your camera doesn't support the automatic modes.

If you have purchased a refurb, I can direct you to a program (free) that will tell you the # or actuations. Or, if considering, I'd ask someone at B&H.

I'm curious about that program. Can you post the link?

Pre-cut mattes can get pricey, but cutting your own isn't terribly difficult with some practice and you'll save a lot.

It's going to depend on the scene and the info you want to put on the matte.

My opinion is that would look cheesy. I think you need to spring for the matting. Feel free to get a second opinion though.

Are the prints you're having made going to include the photo and the text? Or are you having prints made of the photos and the text will be placed on the matte being used?

I'd go for the second choice.

Not sure if I understand what you're planning. Let me know if I'm close.

I'd read some of the other threads on shooting weddings here. It's going to be much more stressful than shooting your daughter's 21st birthday party.

A couple of suggestions off the top of my head:

1) Make a list of the shots you're going to need to get so you can check them off as you get them.

2) Go to the church or venue now or as soon as possible, and look for places you can set up and for obstacles to getting the shots you want.

3) Visit with the minister or other presiding official for any ground rules he or she may have about photos during the service.

Good luck, you're going to need it!

What lens are you using? A 200 or 300mm zoom and some cropping would get you a better shot. You might try to get an angle where you don't have a person directly behind your grandson. I realize it might be difficult to do that though.

Not bad...I would recommend getting a little lower and closer if possible. When taking pictures of kids, I've found it's best for the camera to be on their eye level.

How long before your friend's wedding? I would recommend Canon's speedlight and lots of practice.

How about putting them on and then removing them and dropping them on the floor like a teenage boy would do?

It's an infrared remote, so I believe there needs to be a line of sight from the remote to the sensor on the camera. My D3000 doesn't allow me to trigger it from the rear, only the front. Maybe the D7000 has a sensor on the back of the camera too, I'm not sure.

And Bartulius, there really is no fence at the border there, not even on the property line. I'm not sure what is there, but a few miles to the east of where I took this photo is the place where 3 borders come together. The North Dakota border is the additional boundary.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'll be stopping by the farmstead with the old truck again and trying some of your suggestions. My problem there is another, less photogenic wreck is parked about 5 feet away from the truck, limiting the angle I can get a shot from.
