I was asked to show some of my pictures and I was choosing a layout. What do you think of this kind of layout?

Are the prints you're having made going to include the photo and the text? Or are you having prints made of the photos and the text will be placed on the matte being used?

I'd go for the second choice.

Not sure if I understand what you're planning. Let me know if I'm close.

I was going to print the text and the photo together, that way I wouldn't have to matte them all.

My opinion is that would look cheesy. I think you need to spring for the matting. Feel free to get a second opinion though.

Dave,
Would you put the larger part of the matte on the bottom for the text? Or just even all the way around?

Pre-cut mattes can get pricey, but cutting your own isn't terribly difficult with some practice and you'll save a lot.

It's going to depend on the scene and the info you want to put on the matte.

Are you putting them in frames with glass? If so, the mat will protect the print from sticking to the glass.

I have matted photos with centered window (same all around) and weighted. I think it depends on the photo, but I tend to like the weighted. The only thing I place on the mat is a signature and year, much like signing a drawing or painting. I have put a card on the back with contact information if the photo is for someone else.

Most gallery showings I've seen just have a card with title and artist beside or below the photograph.
