I use Roxio Toast 18 to burn CD's & DVD's after I make either a slide shown or short movie with iMovie. I've had it for quite awhile and was very pleased with how it operated. It unexpectedly quit on me on Sunday AM. I spent a few hours trying to fix it myself but had no luck. Then I saw on their website that their service dept. had hours on Sunday!! After the usual 25 minute "hold time" I finally got to talk to a real live person. Unfortunately I could hardly understand a word he said. I finally was able to understand that he was going to send me an email on how to fix my problem. To make a long story short - it's now Thursday and my problem still has not been resolved. Each day I send him an email with the results I get from an email he has sent out previous day. He asks for screen shots and text files of what has happened when I tried to do what he has emailed me. The results of his emails are always the same - nothing. Not a thing has changed. It's frustrating as all hell!! Thanx for letting me vent and anyone recommend a good program to burn CD's & DVD's with? It doesn't have to be free - just reliable.

Some time ago I downloaded a trial copy of this and ran it through its paces on a number of images. This example of a tree beside a fence is a good example of what it can do. I don't claim that this is a great work of art, it's just an example. I did two things to the original, I replaced the sky and I added the birds. Both were a single mouse click (though that's not strictly true as I tried a few different skies before deciding on this one). In adding the sky you might notice it has also removed the electricity high-tension wires that ran through the middle of the original.

This is only one of its party tricks, it's also a reasonable photo editor, allowing you to adjust the many things you might otherwise do in Lightroom or PhotoShop. I think for the price it's a worthwhile acquisition.

That's the good, now for the bad.

Last night I decided to go ahead and purchase it. I paid my money and downloaded the installer. Once I ran this I tried to start the app and I got an error, something about a "database error". I did a bit of Googling and found this appears to be a common complaint (and has been for a couple of years so why is it still happening?). There was a suggestion that the catalog folder should be renamed, then during reinstallation another folder should be specified as the catalog folder. So I did this and progressed past this error. The restarted app then asked me for my email address and validation code, which I provided. It rejected the email address saying it was invalid. I tried a few more times (typing it in and copying and pasting) to no avail. So I decided to raise a support ticket. It didn't take long to realise this wasn't going to be solved quickly. There were lots of people with this problem and no suggestions of how to fix it. And their support website itself stated that due to the "higher than average" number of support calls there may be a significant delay in getting my call attended to. So then I went back to the web page that I downloaded the app from to investigate their "30 day money back guarantee" but of course I can find no way to initiate this.

On this basis I would find it difficult to recommend Luminar 4 (or any of their other products). I'm happy to recant this if the problem is solved in a reasonable amount of time.

YMMV.

I had Luminar from day one so I just kept updating it as it progressed and had no problems with any updates. The only bad thing I have to say about it is - from day 1 I was being told the program was going to have some kind of DAM in it and i'm still waiting for it. Other than that - how did you add the birds in? I've started taking pics of sky when ever & where ever I see one I like. The were also some "packs" that you could buy that at one time were reasonably priced.

thanx for your insight - much appreciated. I'm pretty happy with iMovie but i just wish you didn't have to put each transition in individually! Would like to be able to just say"add random transitions"!! Is there any way I could import other transitions into iMovie?

are there many different transitions to use?

is there a steep learning curve with FCP? One of the things i don't like about iMovie is you can't just let the program put in random transitions between clips. I sometimes will take a couple hundred pics and put together a slide show for clients. They seem to like it but add each transition individually is time consuming. Does FCP have a lot of transitions?

Anyone familiar with these software programs? I use iMovie for my videos but am looking for some different transitions to use with it. Filmora is pretty much another form of iMovie. Anyone use either or both? Opinions? Better options for adding transitions to iMovie? Thanx in advance

I am thinking of making a calendar for 2021. The subject will be "THIS CHINA NOW". I have been to China over seven times to photograph the life of the Chinese today.I am a retired US Army photographer/photo journalist. However because of the present state of China today I may not be able to go back to China this year. So I decided to make a calendar instead of a photo book for now. Have any of you Ugly Hedgehog's have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks guys in advance.

there's a program called calendar creator if you're interested in doing it yourself - i've been using it for years - easy to use and does a great job

I have a Sony A7R II which i really like. I have several Tamron lenses that I used on my Sony A99 and they all worked great. One of my Tamrons' is a 70-200 2.8 Di SP. I also have the Sony adapter LA-EA4 which enables me to use my Tamron lenses on my A7R II.The problem is the Tamron 70-200 will not autofocus at all with the adapter on the A7R II. Every other Tamron lens and even my Sigma fine art lens will autofocus with the adapter on the A7R II. Anyone out there know of an adapter that i can use on the A&R II that will let me autofocus with the Tamron 70-200?

As is my normal practice, i had my edited image up on my screen, went to Library, clicked on export (to my hard drive), same spot, and hit the button to complete the process. Then I exported one more. Saw the progress bar say it was performing two exports. I let it go. I exported a third and then noticed that the progress bar said exporting 58 files! WHAAAT? I stopped the process, tried again, same thing. Then I shut everything down, restarted and tried again, same thing. Trashed all the exports from my hard drive. Tried one final time and same thing... Any thoughts?

the same thing happened to me recently. I found that I had held down the shift kay and selected all the photos to sync them and they some how all stay selected. I edited one went to export it and LR start exporting all the pics. I stopped it - closed it came back and they were still all selected. Once I selected "none" (command D on mac) and started again everything was fine.

Just a quick poll to see if any LR users hit the "auto" button in the develop mode as a starting point when editing. I started doing that and kinda like it.

after I do a photo shoot I transfer my pics from my SD card to an external hard drive via lightroom classic. Just wondering what software (preferably free) any fellow hoggers are using to backup their external hard drive and if the software will only add new files when backing up after the initial time.

I have been using the tripod mount on my camera to attach my camera strap to ever since I started taking photos and have never had an issue - ever!! A metal screw that goes into the camera body seems stronger than the small clips that are on the side of the camera body
