I use Roxio Toast 18 to burn CD's & DVD's after I make either a slide shown or short movie with iMovie. I've had it for quite awhile and was very pleased with how it operated. It unexpectedly quit on me on Sunday AM. I spent a few hours trying to fix it myself but had no luck. Then I saw on their website that their service dept. had hours on Sunday!! After the usual 25 minute "hold time" I finally got to talk to a real live person. Unfortunately I could hardly understand a word he said. I finally was able to understand that he was going to send me an email on how to fix my problem. To make a long story short - it's now Thursday and my problem still has not been resolved. Each day I send him an email with the results I get from an email he has sent out previous day. He asks for screen shots and text files of what has happened when I tried to do what he has emailed me. The results of his emails are always the same - nothing. Not a thing has changed. It's frustrating as all hell!! Thanx for letting me vent and anyone recommend a good program to burn CD's & DVD's with? It doesn't have to be free - just reliable.

You should try removing Toast 18. Then restart your Mac and reinstall Toast.

Did you do any Mac OS updates since the last time you used Toast?

Toast 18 is 64 bit and should continue working as in the past..as it was. Should work with any upgrade.
Agree to remove and reinstall.

i have removed it - shut down the computer - restarted and then reinstalled it - all with the same result - it won't open. Their tech support had me go deep into the files for Toast and delete some files and still the same thing - it installs but will not open. Any one know of another program that'll burn cd's/dvd's?

Here are some alternatives. (type in alternatives to Toast in your search)

Do you have the installation discs? When I have issues I usually like to go back to the "factory" discs. Also, there maybe some "leftovers" of files/program stuff left on the computer when you delete the main program. There are "cleaner" programs that will remove the links/ties that programs sometimes leave behind. Toast maybe the best burner program for your computer. Sorry you are having trouble. Have you tried to install on a different computer? Good luck -- keep trying there probably is a solution.

For Internal or external disk burning?

When macBookPros had an optical drive I used MacOS to burn disks. Has that option gone away with the vanishing dvd slot?

I've had my ups & downs over the years with disc burners and the software to use them, but I have a very good thing going with the Verbatim exterior burner I bought last year that functions even better with BurnAware Premium ($19.95 and worth every penny, with free lifetime upgrades) burner software. Produces perfect blu-ray, DVD & Cds formatted for data, music, video, multi-media, etc. You can even burn an .Iso image to disk. I haven't begun to list what BurnAware can do, quickly and efficiently, and for an excellent price. There's a fully operational free version available to try it out.

it doesn't work on a MacBook Pro - it's a windows only program
