Sony with Tamron

I have a Sony A7R II which i really like. I have several Tamron lenses that I used on my Sony A99 and they all worked great. One of my Tamrons' is a 70-200 2.8 Di SP. I also have the Sony adapter LA-EA4 which enables me to use my Tamron lenses on my A7R II.The problem is the Tamron 70-200 will not autofocus at all with the adapter on the A7R II. Every other Tamron lens and even my Sigma fine art lens will autofocus with the adapter on the A7R II. Anyone out there know of an adapter that i can use on the A&R II that will let me autofocus with the Tamron 70-200?

The LA-EA4 has built in autofocus, that is what is doing the focusing rather than your camera.
I believe that the 70-200 is a screw drive lens but have not been able to confirm that. If so that is why it is not auto focusing with the LA-EA4.
The adapter you want is the LA-EA3. it Adapts the A-mount lenses to the E-mount cameras so that they can use the camera autofocus.
I have one on my A6500 to use my Tamron 150-600mm A-mount.

Your adapter is likely the culprit, anything "adapted" will be a hit or miss combination. Some work and some do not. Since your Tamron is an SP, it should be a USD motor rather than a screw drive so even the LA-EA3 adapter should work with it.

The LA-EA4 is made to be used with screw focused AF lenses. I have one and use it on my 7AII with my Minolta screw drive AF lenses. The LA-EA3 is not able to AF lenses with screw mount drives, as it has no screw drive.
It will AF some lenses with built in AF motors. I have this adapter too.

THIS LA-EA3 DOES NOT LET MOST LENSES AUTO FOCUS. You'll notice that there is NO AF screw pin coming out of the black hole on the lower right. From Ken Rockwell's site.

Unless you have a lens with a built-in AF motor, there is no screw drive in the LA-EA3 to turn the screw AF connection of most of these older AF lenses.

Is there a local camera store that you can try the different types of adapters? Some lenses just might not be adaptable. My experience though, if it doesn't work with the LAEA4, it will not work with anything. You might want to try the Sigma MC11?

My Minolta 70-210 would not focus properly on the LAEA 4. I used Sony's built in lens calibration on both my a6000 and a7ii to solve the problem.

I did the same with about ten Minolta AF lenses on my A7 III; calibration was relatively simple and they all autofocus just fine after the process.
