Just a quick poll to see if any LR users hit the "auto" button in the develop mode as a starting point when editing. I started doing that and kinda like it.

I frequently do that using ACR/Photoshop (similar to LR).

I frequently use it to see what it produces. I don't always keep the adjustment.

I have presets that I created for my most common shooting situations/lenses, macro, 150-600mm etc but if none of those fit I'll use 'auto' as a starting point.

Sometimes I use it as a starting point and pp from there. Auto on my computer generally starts the image too light.

On an image with normal midtones I'll start with auto. However, it often adds too much black for me, and of course does not do other things the image might need. It does help when I've taken shots that are darker than I would have liked. I always do additional processing.

Yes. I get ideas from the Auto Toning that I never would have considered myself from just looking at all the sliders sitting at their 0-setting. The Auto results are rather garish, so my own re-adjustments are extensive. I also sync the edits to one image across all the similar images, rather than re-adjusting every image. I "tweak" the synced adjustments for each image, if needed.

I use the older standalone v6 software. There's been comments the auto-tone in the current subscription is more effective now, less garish.

I made a preset for importing that applies auto plus a little sharpening, clarity and saturation. It works pretty good! The reset button works too!

I have it set up with a settings profile that automatically does "auto" on import. So yes.

Yes, a good starting point; then, additional adjustments.

If you like it the rest doesn't matter.
