Anyone familiar with these software programs? I use iMovie for my videos but am looking for some different transitions to use with it. Filmora is pretty much another form of iMovie. Anyone use either or both? Opinions? Better options for adding transitions to iMovie? Thanx in advance
I changed to using Filmora for simplicity and efficiency. Very satisfied with it for quick, simple workflow.

I use Filmora and I find it both simple to use and very powerful.

iMovie is great, but Final Cut Pro is the ultimate balanced Mac video editing experience. DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Avid Media Composer are also top tier tools.
We use FCP here, and love it.
is there a steep learning curve with FCP? One of the things i don't like about iMovie is you can't just let the program put in random transitions between clips. I sometimes will take a couple hundred pics and put together a slide show for clients. They seem to like it but add each transition individually is time consuming. Does FCP have a lot of transitions?
are there many different transitions to use?

It does have many transitions, but as with any professional tool, it has a LOT of features. Fortunately, there are plenty of video tutorials online that you can download, along with practice exercises and footage to get the hang of it. Its interface looks and feels and works like iMovie, and it can import iMovie projects, but it has a smorgasbord more audio and video tools. For $300 (after a 90-day free trial), it ought to be rich in features! It is... Color correction, multiple video and audio timelines, audio processing tools, color correction tools, wave form monitors and vector scopes, transitions, special effects, titling, export to just about anything...
It sounds like you have a different sort of need, if you want a more automated tool. You can do what you want to do in iMovie or FCP, but you may need to spend a lot more hands-on time with it. FCP and other pro editing tools are capable of doing projects such as Ken Burns' films shown on PBS. (Even iMovie can do most of the sort of work he does.)
thanx for your insight - much appreciated. I'm pretty happy with iMovie but i just wish you didn't have to put each transition in individually! Would like to be able to just say"add random transitions"!! Is there any way I could import other transitions into iMovie?

Not that I know of, but then, I use mostly dissolves (cross fades).
