I totally agree. A pro can do wonders with the most basic equipment. Spending big bucks on fancy cameras and expensive lenses will not make anyone a better photographer. The camera only captures the image in the way you tell it to. Learn the basics of photography first then build up your skills on that.

I engage in photography because I enjoy it, no other reason. I also enjoy working with carefully designed and manufactured equipment, so I acquire nearly the best I can afford, even if it may exceed my current capabilities. If faced with the issue you raised, I guess I would disagree. I see no downside to an individual having equipment that exceeds his/her photographic capability. The Apple iPad Pro I am typing on is capable of more functions than I am able to use. My vehicle has capabilities that exceed my driving ability. I have carpentry and mechanical tools, some of with exceed my capabilities. Why cannot the same thing be OK for the camera gear one has? I would advise anyone interested in photography to get the best camera gear one can reasonably afford, while keeping peace with one’s significant other, and learn to use the equipment’s capabilities that interest you. It’s not necessary that every photographer use all their equipment to the greatest extent possible. My POV. Frank

Hello Hoggers,
You people always come through and I always value your opinions. I do a general consensus after and I'm usually satisfied with the results so far.
Is spending the extra money worth it for an extended warranty? The camera cost will be around $4000 or will I be better off spending that money on extra equipment ? Thank you kindly & Pax.

I never buy extended warranties on anything including appliances and vehicles. My logic is: Over the long term, insurance companies must collect more in premiums than they pay out for claims or they would operate at a loss. If you are an average care taker of your equipment you will likely spend less on repairs/replacements over the long term than you would on extended warranties or any other kind of insurance. By “long term” I mean 20 - 40 years, long enough to average out your losses against non-losses. Frank

A lawyer named Strange passed away. His friend asked the tombstone maker to inscribe on his tombstone, "Here lies Strange, an honest man, and a lawyer."

The inscriber insisted that such an inscription would be confusing, for a passerby would tend to think that three men were buried under the stone.

However, he suggested an alternative. He would inscribe, "Here lies a man who was both honest and a lawyer."

That way, whenever anyone walked by the tombstone and read it, they would be certain to remark, "That's Strange."

I also found this to be funny. But I wonder why we tend to view lawyers as dishonest. Our legal system is adversarial, and the lawyer’s job on each side is to represent his/her client’s best interest. Neither lawyer represents her/himself. Even the worst criminal is entitled to legal representation. So, why don’t we see jokes about dishonest architects, or dishonest dentists, or dishonest teachers?

A refurbished camera will never have very many actuations. They’re not cameras that people have owned long enough. Sometimes they’re cameras that were defective when initially bought and returned, repaired, sometimes they’re perfectly good cameras that were returned for some other reason. They can’t be sold as new so they’re checked out, made like new and sold as a refurb.

Thanks. That explanation clarified my concern. Frank

Can they do that?! Sounds like a used car lot setting the odometer back.

I assume that if a refurbished camera meets the same specs as a new one, then the shutter should be in the same condition as a new one. Otherwise, if the shutter is left as is and has 100K cycles on it, it is nearly half worn out. So, my question was what does Nikon do about the shutter when refurbishing. Frank

When Nikon refurbishes a camera is the shutter overhauled so that it has nearly the same life as a new camera? Frank

Added new background to previous horse photo.

Nor sure what the point is with the composite. The horse is beautiful in its own right, so why not photograph it in its own natural setting. There are areas where horses range on coastal or lake beaches. While this image is technically well done, the horse appears positioned to graze on sand. Just my personal view. Frank

Part of the problem is that any point in time there are fewer jobs available than the total population of eligible workers. Not everyone can “better themselves and get a real job.” Frank

I wonder if this one will be censored

Once again, the WHO has stepped in to offer some confusing comments about the coronavirus vaccine, warning that there is "no evidence to be confident shots prevent transmission" and that people who receive the vaccine should continue wearing masks and following all social distancing and travel guidelines.

The comments were made by WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan during what appears to have been a virtual press conference held Monday.

"I don't believe we have the evidence on any of the vaccines to be confident that it's going to prevent people from actually getting the infection and therefore being able to pass it on”, says WHO Chief Scientist @doctorsoumya pic.twitter.com/QdTvzj7Nyd

As I understand it you can be contagious before developing symptoms. Also, with the vaccine you can still contract Covid and be contagious, but will not likely develop serious symptoms in the one vaccinated. That’s why we are advised to continue with masks, social distancing, and hand washing after vaccination. There is no zero risk while still living! All the measures recommended to diminish he spread of Covid REDUCE the risk, not eliminate it. I think the vaccination will substantially reduce the risk of serious illness from Covid, and will get it when available. Frank

I own two DJI drones and in my opinion they are among the best drones out there. Just know that if you buy any drone you will be restricted as to where you can fly it, and if you want to use it to take photos to sell, you must have an FAA pilots license at a cost of $150 and pass a fairly difficult test.

It takes several thousand dollars to complete all requirements for just a private pilot license.

It sounds like you think the manner of administering Covid vaccine is something out of the ordinary and something to worry about.
Many medications are issued in concentrated form or desiccated form, and saline needs to be added to the vial to make the medication the correct concentration before doses are drawn up.
Frozen Covid vaccine will be 1) thawed, 2) brought to correct concentration by adding sterile saline using sterile technique, 3) individual amounts for a single correct dose will be drawn up one at a time in separate sterile syringes, and 4) administered within 6 hours, one dose administered per patient.
Why are you looking for something to worry about?
And - no offense - unless you're trying to joke or create a pun, giving your post the title that "Yes the vaccine will be diluted" is irresponsible terminology, suggesting to readers that the vaccine they receive will be less effective than it should be.
