Who owns the house?

Even with things like NOMOROBO and the telephone provider apps, we still on occasion get junk telephone calls from companies trying to sell you something. So, rather than wasting the opportunity, I like to have some fun with these annoying folks. Just a few minutes ago, I get a call from some company trying to sell me solar panels.

BTW, I hope you remember Abbott and Costello's "Who's on First" routine. Here's how my call from the Solar company went:

Caller: We are offering you a way to cut your electricity bill with “Home Solar.” Are you the homeowner?
Me: No. (That was a lie.)

Caller: Who owns the house?
Me: Yes

Caller: The person who owns the house.
Me: Who

Caller: Is that a relative of yours?
Me: No

Caller: So what is the name of the person who owns the house?
Me: No, who owns the house.

Caller: That’s what I’d like to know…who owns the house?
Me: Yes

…and on and on it went…at some point, the caller got quite disoriented, and shouted out for a supervisor to come on the line. I didn’t wish to continue this with a supervisor with an American accent. So, I hung up, and related the call to my wife who got a big belly-laff. Then I hit the “call block” button on my phone.

Don't know about your side but here they have a way of displaying local no's so you often answer. They also use (or display) many alternative no's so you just fill up the call blocker memory.

I ought to give a blast from a thunderer whistle down the line - but I think thats illegal in the U.K.

The calls are annoying. The caller who has interrupted your day is trying to make a living in what must be a very unpleasant experience for him or her as well.
Why make it worse?

I agree with you 100%. Stop being a jerk. There’s other ways to give your wife a belly laff. The person on the other end is trying to make a living. If you’re not interested then just say so and hang up. If this guy would have gotten angry at you and hung up he could’ve lost his job. STOP BEING AN ASS

Why you have to be so ignorant? This person is just trying to make a living. There’s other ways to give your wife a belly laff. If you not interested just say so and hang up. STOP BEING AN ASS

The guy that steals your car is just trying to make a living too, so give him a break and don't call the police.

In my effort to discourage robo calls I have started a new plan. When I get one of these calls I listen long enough to confirm that it is truly a robo call. Once confirmed to my satisfaction I then simply set the phone down . . . let them keep talking . . . without my hanging up. I think this "may" discourage robo callers more than anything else because it wastes their time. When I hear the dial tone eventually . . . I then hang up. What do you think?

I think deliberate wasting of people’s time is admirable.

Put your phone number on the list to help all of them make a living.

Burglars simply try to make a living also,
feel bad for them?

We get these annoying calls every day on the house phone. The only reason we keep the land line is so my wife can talk with her family in Germany. I have begun turning on the fax machine during the day and let it pick up on them. Maybe they will finally get tired of calling.
