When the c****a v***s began there was an increase in my pension plan, that surprised me. It stayed steady throughout the entire time we have been going thru this.
Thank you Trump.

Since the e******n my portfolio has taken a hit, I have lost right at $100,000.
Thanks a lot Biden.

I guess you didn't realize that Biden does not take office until January 20, 2021. You may if you want, "credit" Trump with wh**ever is going on in the economy and p******c until that date. I imagine you have sent Trump $$Cash in the name of fighting the e******n. The best sources indicate that money being headed for the Trump criminal fine and debt category when the legal, and borrowing roof collapses upon him after he leaves office. Happy with that ??

Always happy to receive a well thought out and intelligent response to facts. {In case you forgot -'Bull Crap' does not suffice}. I am incidentally a Vietnam service time veteran and have learned to detect "Bull Crap">

It should not surprise you to know that all of us are tanking financially. We can blame anyone we choose but nothing will change the facts. Let’s be careful before this thread ends up in the Attic. I’m Afraid of dark places. I didnt expect to close this year needing open heart surgery. As for the Hospital Bills I never been in a hospital bed in all my 59 years. I never had surgery either. Just think, after all the pot I smoked when I was a teenager it never affected me!
As for you my fellow Hogger, thank you for your service.

Agree. Regardless of each person’s political philosophy, thank you to all who served our country in the military.

All the best for your surgery. I had a four way bypass severn years ago, so I can somewhat appreciate your situation. Take care.

I heard a report that in Germany and China they are actually selling bonds with a negative interest rate. Maybe for people who need a tax loss????

With my luck the California State Teachers Pension Fund will t***sfer 100% of its investments to those bonds.

Early in the Great Recession (2008) I sold most of my stock, then bought back when I saw signs of recovery. I ended up ahead. Frank

A person’s “pension plan” doesn’t lose like that. Some other investments? Check out the end of 2018...what were you saying then when all of 2018’s gains were lost? Did you invest heavily in the down market showing your confidence?

And obviously you don't understand that the market reacted to and will continue to react to the outcome of the e******n. Glad to help.

If it is when I am thinking I took a big hit. Just had to wait it out, like now.

I don't know how all pension plans work but ours goes by units. We can invest in several options ranging from high risk to low risk. There is even one fund that is like putting it in a savings account, no gains and no losses. One unit might have a tenth of a share of one company and half share of another etc. In one of our funds there are 30 or so company's per unit. The unit price goes up or down.
I retired three years ago but haven't begun drawing from my pension plan because I have other sources of income and don't need the money from it. I guess I am one of the fortunate ones. Now I am guessing it will be quite a while before I consider drawing money from it.

In a traditional pension(defined benefit), the plan administrators determine investments (usually all employer or union provided). A defined contribution benefit (401k, 403b, etc.) works as you described. Hope it works out for you! Being able to retire with some financial security and comfort is a gift to your older self.
