Do any of you Nikon shooters use refurbished cameras? If so, any problems? Also, which vendors do you patronize? Thanks for your replys.

I bought my Nikon Df new, but I have bought a number of used lenses from KEH.com I have always been pleased with my purchases.

You'll hear this from many hoggers as well as me...when you buy a refurbished (by Nikon) product you'll be getting a product that has been completely inspected and brought to the exacting specs of a brand new item. I always look for a refurbished camera or lens from Nikon and know that I'll be getting a good as new item. I've made many refurb purchases from Nikon and NEVER been disappointed. I would recommend that you buy refurbished and put the money that you save toward a new lens or something else. Good luck.

Mostly used, and a couple of refurbished items. The one camera I had an issue with was a D800 refurb, purchased from Hunt's in MA, but it was refurbed by Nikon and sealed. Shutter count was less than 10. It would not focus. So much for the commonly repeated myth that refurb cameras are somehow better because they have been refurbed. Several trips to Nikon in Melville and eventually they got it straight - all under their refurb warranty, and they even extended my warranty for another 6 months. No complaints - stuff happens - they fixed it and to me that's all that matters. I still have it and use it as a back up to a D810. All in all I have purchased 4 factory refurbed items and one was bad (but got fixed).

I usually go to Fred Miranda's classifieds, and occasionally eBay for used items. Have yet to be burnt.

Zeke, used and "Nikon" refurbished are two different animals. I would only recommend refurbished by Nikon to be assured of the highest quality.

Leaving out my Film Nikons, Ex my DF - all of my Nikon cameras and most of my lenses were bought used from reputable suppliers. All were gotten at great prices compared to refurb, and all have been trouble free. I would not have the capabilities I have now with refurb since I couldn't have afforded the equipment I've accumulated.

Refurb can be a good deal because many of them are simply returns from buyers who changed their mind. I don't think the refurbs got a better inspection than new camera from factory. I believe they are not as well inspected as new cameras. So if a refurb has an intemittent problem it will not be detected.

While I usually buy new, I did buy a refurbished lens directly from Nikon about 5 years ago. No complaints so far.

My refurbished Nikon D3300 and 2 refurbished "kit" lenses came from Cameta Camera, which is no longer in business. The camera had more shutter actuations (4000+) than I had hoped when I pulled the trigger on the "refurb" purchase, but have had no real issues with the camera or lenses. I also found shortly after purchase that the third-party warranty they touted so prominently only covered the body and one lens. But, doesn't change how the gear performs. So, live and learn. Don't get me wrong, the experience with Cameta Camera was OK, in spite of those points. The camera and lenses still perform well. Nevertheless, I will likely buy a new camera next time - I'm currently looking at the Nikon Z5 or Z6 and an all-purpose zoom.

Zeke all my Pro Bodies 2 D3s, 2 D3xs and D810 have been refurbs from Nikon USA.
All have been stellar... and pretty much at half the new price...

My D3x's are still my primary studio camera...
In all honesty after shooting all day with a D3x and then picking up my D810 it feels like a toy in my hands however the D810's resolution is to be cherished for league soccer... as well as it's lighting fast AF and amazingly quiet shutter...

I've had excellent luck with refurbs from Nikon USA... they come sealed with all components of the same item new. Even purchased my AF-S 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR II as a refurb from Nikon USA... amazingly remarkable lens, light weight and a joy to shoot on location.

Hope this helps Zeke.
All the best on your journey...
