About eight years ago 12 of us were on a mission trip to India. The only airport we had trouble with was the airport in India. We wanted a group photo and manage to get one photo taken before security arrived and stopped us. They were polite, but stopped any further picture taking.

You could do what I did when I was shooting with a Canon 5D and wanted a macro lens. I ordered both the Sigma 105 and Canon 100L from B&H to try them both out. I thought the Canon was slightly better on the Canon and returned the Sigma to B&H.
If interested here is a link to my un-scientific testing of both:

Also do the move inside lightroom LR will remember where the photos are

This is the way to do it. You can even create the new folder on the new drive from within Lightroom. Then while in Lightroom simply drag the old folders & photos over to the new drive & folder.
Lightroom will know where they are and you won't loose any info.

Make a backup of the catalog first. Also, in Lightroom have it also create a backup to the current catalog. You can have it create this backup catalog anywhere. I would suggest the backup be on the new drive, so you will have the same catalogs on two different drives.

 Good lesson but it will never happen. Why would that guy work when the goverment pays him for not working. I knew a guy back in the late fourtys that would throw a brick through a store window so they would put him in jail for the winter. We payed the tax payers paid to feed him and give him a place to live. Only differance now is they dont have to throw a brick through a window. The tax payer still pays to feed them and keep them warm. Before you call me anything the guy was a white man. If you know anything about me you know Im aganst our prison system as it is to day. Nobody should ever be treated better in prison than our homeless. Or our really needy. A prison should be a place that no one wants to be. Should not have TV Or computers. that the thugs can run scams right from their cell. Our prison system cost the tax payer way to much. The last I heard it was over $52,000. to keep one prisoner a year. A familey of four could live on that for a year. Why is one prisoner more valuble to this country than a famley of four? As Ive said before farm out our prison system to, say Turkey I bet they would do it for $10,000 a year per prisoner and they would be more than happy to do it. If that wouldnt be a deterant I dont know what is.

I have to agree with you. One example: I am a retired LEO in Washington state. One time I was booking a guy who was from Texas. I casually asked him why didn't he stay in Texas to do his crime? His reply was the jails were much nicer here than in Texas and he didn't mine our jails. Something wrong with this picture.

Good point about checking the weather. Nothing like a picture.

I liked the view from Johnson Ridge, but both locations are good. Also, a few years ago the wife and I took a helicopter tour of the crater, it was great.

Funny you should use that term, "Hog Heaven," but riders of motorcycles usually carry a small pad to put under the side stand when they park on a soft surface. So, if the garden surface isn't supporting the tripod, put a piece of something firm under each leg.

As a motorcycle rider, a small pad for the side stand is a good thing to carry, and the same thing will work for the tripod. Being a cheap guy, what I used was a small electrical box cover that I had laying around. Cheap to buy if you don't have an old one. I fastened a cord to mine so I just drop it into position and later pick it up. Although for tripod use, as others have said I just push the legs into the ground to firm the location. But my rig is not has heavy as what your doing.

Just a thought. If you already have a good linear polarizer and use it with a internal focusing lens, couldn't you frame & focus the shot without the polarizer on the lens, then screw on the polarizer and take the photo?

As others have said, use a crate. Dogs are natural den animals and want to keep their den clean. Make sure the crate is just big enough to allow them to stand & turn around, but can not get away from a "accident". I have crate trained several dogs, never has one gone more than once in their crate. When taken out, take them to where you want them to go, not just outside the front door. When back in the house if I or the kids can't watch them 100% of the time, back in the crate he goes. No multitasking.
When we had dobermans & English sheep dog they lived in the house with us, but did their business outside. Now we have just a little dog and she shares the inside litter box with the cat.
One thing about using a litter box, while very convenient, the dog does not know what to do when in a strange house with no litter box, has to be taken outside regularly.

By the way, our English sheep dog lived over 21 years old.

Back when I had a Canon 5D I wanted a 100mm macro lens and was trying to decide between the Canon 100L macro or the Sigma 100mm Macro. Both were F2.8 with IS and USM or HSM focus.
I ordered both from B&H and tried them out. Although the Canon cost a little more, I ended up keeping it and returning the Sigma. The main difference was the Canon had slightly better IS, but they were very close.

I mention this because you could do the same thing with the 70-300mm decision. You will have to pay for shipping one of the lens back to B&H, but you end up with what you want.

Don't forget to check the box to "add to this catalog", assuming you want LR to keep track of the photos.

This is one of the things I like about my Pentax. When using the tripod I use the three second timer, which when the shutter button is pressed it raises the mirror and three seconds later the photo is taken. If the camera is shut off afterwards it cancels the three second timer and reverts back to single shot.

Great photos Ernie. I really like your compositions. It's nice to see another Seattle/Tacoma photographer posting. I live in the Tacoma area.

I tried Flickr years ago and at that time I didn't like their layout. I changed to Zenfolio and enjoy it.

One other thing to add about my wife's trip to Israel. It was a guided trip through a tour company. She used a Canon G9 point & shoot hanging from her neck. As it was, she was very busy trying to take pictures & notes to what they were saying & seeing it would have been impossible for her with a DSR camera.
One of the other members of the tour did use a DSR with multiple lens. He spent so much time with the camera & lens that he couldn't take any notes. At the end of the day he had lots of pictures, but could not remember details about where & what they were.
My wife things a digital voice recorder would have been good to use, but each evening you will want to spend time transcribing what was recorded.
Have fun.

My wife just got back from a guided tour of Israel. Others have pretty much answered your photography questions, but you might be interested in reading her blog she made of the trip. She made daily reports, and considering she was trying to take notes, take photos and still remain with the group, she made a great report. Lots of information.
