The Fifty Dollar Lesson

I recently asked my friends little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be the President of the United States. Both of her parents are liberal Democrats and were standing there . So I asked her " If you were President what's the first thing you would do?"
She Replied " I'd give food and houses to all the homelesss people". Her parents beamed!

"Well ... what a worthy goal" I said. " But you don't have to wait until you're president to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull the weeds and sweep my driveway, and I will pay you $ 50.00.
Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out and you can give him the $50 to use for food and a new house".

She thought that over for a few seconds , then she looked me strqaight in the eye and said " Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work , and you can give him the $50" I said " Welcome to the Republican Party"

Her parents still aren't speaking to me!

 Good lesson but it will never happen. Why would that guy work when the goverment pays him for not working. I knew a guy back in the late fourtys that would throw a brick through a store window so they would put him in jail for the winter. We payed the tax payers paid to feed him and give him a place to live. Only differance now is they dont have to throw a brick through a window. The tax payer still pays to feed them and keep them warm. Before you call me anything the guy was a white man. If you know anything about me you know Im aganst our prison system as it is to day. Nobody should ever be treated better in prison than our homeless. Or our really needy. A prison should be a place that no one wants to be. Should not have TV Or computers. that the thugs can run scams right from their cell. Our prison system cost the tax payer way to much. The last I heard it was over $52,000. to keep one prisoner a year. A familey of four could live on that for a year. Why is one prisoner more valuble to this country than a famley of four? As Ive said before farm out our prison system to, say Turkey I bet they would do it for $10,000 a year per prisoner and they would be more than happy to do it. If that wouldnt be a deterant I dont know what is.

I have to agree with you. One example: I am a retired LEO in Washington state. One time I was booking a guy who was from Texas. I casually asked him why didn't he stay in Texas to do his crime? His reply was the jails were much nicer here than in Texas and he didn't mine our jails. Something wrong with this picture.

I believe Joe Arpiao (sheriff in AZ) had the right idea when he built a tent city jail in the desert. He said our trooops lived in tents in the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, so why should criminals be treated better.
