Thanks for the feedback - only problem is that you misspelled her name! And I think I included that book in my initial response.

Please refer to Victoria Blanton's book Adobe Photoshop Light Room CC/6 the Missing FAQ or her second book Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC the missing FAQ. I prefer the first of these two books as, for me, it is easier to understand. Both provide the answer to your questions.

Mark;
I currently have three Mac's, each serves a different set of purposes. I have an iMac 27 configured primarily for processing photos (Lightroom and Photoshop) and other desktop tasks; a MacBook Pro for most other computer tasks at and sometime away from home, and a MacBook Air for writing and while traveling. The MacBook Pro boot sequence is VERY slow and the hard disk fragile so I keep it in sleep mode when not in use. The MacBook Air boots quickly (SSD) but has limited storage so I carry an external disk drive to collect photos as well as draft copy of my writings. Had I bought the MacBook Air before the MacBook Pro I would not have bought the Pro! Hope this answers your question. Chief Rob

One possible answer to you question is:

Go to System Preferences ->Displays -> Display Brightness -> (1) UNCHECK Automatically Adjust Brightness, and (2) move the brightness bar to center

Good luck

Profiles exist in Photoshop (PS) and not in Lightroom (LR).

In PS, profiles mathematically define the way that a device interprets the level values that determine color in an image. In PS a preset is simply a collection of saved settings that are easily reloaded to make a tool behave the exact same way each time it uses the preset. Presets are organized into sets that you can load for each tool or panel and then easily selected.

In LR presets save sets of setting to apply to other photos over and over again.

I organize computer and Lightroom directories (folders) in this sort of tree

YearMonthDaySession01
YearMonthDaySession02

Example: 180406
18 = year (2018)
04 = month (April)
06 = date (Sixth)
Session = Topic (exp = example)
etc …..

In Lightroom I use "Collections" to further organize my photos for special purposes such as topic, shoots, place, functions, etc. From the grid view drag the selected image by their thumbnail and drag into the collection. The images remains in their storage folder but are grouped for access in the collection.

Good luck. Chief Rob

I suggest you read Victoria Bampton's (The Lightroom Queen) book "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC The Missing FAQ. She presents a section for newbies beginning on page 5 that explains that Lightroom DOES NOT STORE PHOTOS but does create a database catalog that identifies where each image file is stored (where YOU put it) along with additional image data, including any edits you made to the original image. This reference is an excellent tutorial as well as a valuable desk reference. It is available from her web site (https://www.lightroomqueen.com) Good luck! Chief Rob

NOW BACK IN PRINT! David Busch's Nikon D750 Fast Track Guide is the new edition of the out-of-print best-seller David Busch's Nikon D750 Guide to Digital SLR Photography.

The Nikon D750 is the most advanced camera in its price range that Nikon has ever introduced. It boasts 24 megapixels of resolution, blazing-fast automatic focus, and professional level video capabilities. But your gateway to pixel proficiency is dragged down by the fat but confusing book included in the box as a manual. You know everything you need to know is in there, somewhere, but you don't know where to start.In addition, the camera manual doesn't offer much information on photography or digital photography.

Nor are you interested in spending hours or days studying a comprehensive book on digital
SLR photography that doesn't necessarily apply directly to your D750. What you need is a guide that explains the purpose and function of the D750's basic controls, how you should use them, and why. Ideally, there should be information about file formats, resolution, aperture/priority exposure, and special autofocus modes, but you'd prefer to read about those topics only after you've had the chance to go out and take a few hundred great pictures with your new camera. Why isn't there a book that summarizes the most important information in its first two or three chapters, with lots of illustrations showing what your results will look like when you use this setting or that? This is that book.

Good luck, Chief Rob

Unfortunately, according to the Senate Rules a majority in the Senate requires 60 v**es, not 50 +1, as the Dems want everyone to believe! Folk wisdom states; "A half t***h is NO T***H AT ALL!"

And I'll bet every member of Congress insist on both of two things: (1) They expect (insist) on being labeled HONORABLE, and (2) they expect to receive their paychecks during the shutdown.

The Senate Minority Leader stood up and stated on the Senate Floor that he and the Dems would resist the Repubs (and Mr Trump) every step of the way ---- and, for the most part, they are (even after the Repubs consessions during negotiations).

Yes, I can and will make a recommendation of materials for learning Lightroom. I suggest that you purchase Victoria Bampton's book; "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC/6 The Missing FAQ". This book provides specific instruction on using Lightroom, supplemented in many cases with the reasoning for specific approaches used in the application. Additionally to being, in effect, a "written tutorial" the reference also serves as a handy desk reference; the index provides specific page numbers associated with the functions. The book is available at Amazon for the listed prices (Jan 20, 2018) of $46.95 paper, $31.95 Kindle. I recommend the paper version as Ms Bampton offers a free electronic version (including formats PDF, Kindle/Mobi, and EPUB) if you register the purchase as described on page 576. Registering the book provides additional benefits.

The following is copied from her web site this morning:

Lightroom Classic book coming soon. If you purchase this CC/6 version from THIS website between October 18, 2017 and the Classic book’s release, you’ll get the update to the Classic ebook free of charge, so you don’t have to wait to order. Orders placed before October 18 or registered after purchasing from a third-party website will receive an upgrade discount code emailed on release day." Her web site is

PixelStan77 asked the question:

"How would you feel if you were the victim of being a dreamer?"

My answer is: My parents let me down.

Sir; Lightroom is a very sophisticated software package with many functions, each function having multiple facets. While videos, to more than fewer, are an easy method of learning I have found they do not work well for me. To compensate for my poor video based learning I rely on written materials such as tutorials and desk references. In the case of Lightroom I have found a book that serves me well as both a tutorial and as a desk reference. This is Victoria Bampton's book "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC/6 The Missing FAQ". Today, October 7, 2017 the book is available at Amazon for $46.95 paperback and $31.95 kindle. I highly recommend buying the paperback version as Ms Bampton gives you an ebook version in any of several formats including kindle IF YOU REGISTER YOUR BOOK. See the directions for book registration on page 576 of the tome. Good luck and photography! Chief Rob
