Yes, at 81 I finally decided to get one because, although I can stand and walk, it is very painful. I have 17 titanium pins and screws in my feet trying to hold my feet together. Somehow, four of the pins and screws in each foot have broken and the feet have collapsed again. Since each subsequent operation to "correct" the problems require approximately 9 months of recovery, I just don't feel that at my age, I have essentially two years to devote to recovery with no assurances that the operations will be successful. I purchased a mobility scooter this year and it has proven very handy. It is a Golden Mobility scooter [https://www.google.com/search?q=golden+mobility+scooter&oq=Golden+mobility+scooter&aqs=chrome.0.0i512l2j46i175i199i512j0i512l7.7247j1j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8]. Mine is one with the controls on the toggle stick which I prefer. It breaks down into four parts for storing in the trunk or car. Each piece supposedly weighs no more than 35 or so pounds, so it is manageable. I do not have an attachment on my car to lift or carry it but that would be even more handy. It cost approximately $2,000. It is very handy in the right situations. Check carefully with the limitations before you buy. Mine works well on sidewalks, relatively smooth ground and in the suburban streets. However, you really need the "handicap" ramps to get on and off the sidewalk or you end up having to try to lift it up or down over curbs. It is not especially comfortable on side slopes. It has protection from falling over backwards but not for sideways. The battery is reputably good for about 15 miles fully charged. I think I have used for for at least 5 miles a couple of times. I am happy with mine and it is especially handy for events like car shows, state fairs and trips around parks with decent walkways or paths. It does not work well on soft ground or on leaf covered surfaces as the wheels tend to spin on the loose leaves. So, while it has drawbacks, I am happy that I purchased it. More importantly, so is my wife.

I don't mind a small tattoo on a female's ankle or shoulder but in my opinion, it has gone too far. I hate seeing a female with a really beautiful body covered neck to toe with tattoos. I like seeing the beauty of pure unadulterated acres of skin! A few years ago it seemed heavily tattooed women were usually overweight or homely looking. Now it seems I see more and more beautiful women with way too much tattooing. I guess I'm looking at this mainly from a photography standpoint. A local photographer has models take off all jewelry other than small earrings. He claims excess jewelry is distracting and takes away from the natural beauty of the model. The heavy tattooing is even worse.

It will reveal that I am an older man probably no longer in the mainstream of popular thought but it has long been my firm opinion that I have never seen a girl, lady, or woman whose appearance, attractiveness or demonstration of good decision making has been improved by the addition of a tattoo. Actually the same goes for men. I often find myself dumbfounded that people seem to add random, often ugly, tattoos just here and there. I am sure that this will not find a lot of resonance among the younger hoggers.

Please note: This did NOT occur in the Antarctic. The Antarctic is a continent (land) and submarines do not surface up through land. They do, however, surface from under the ice in the Arctic where this video was shot. I know, a minor issue, but as a career submarine officer I thought I would add to the comments. And, yes, Arctic operations are very complex and very technical.

Yes, we play it every day and compare results. We also do the Spelling Bee in the NYT. But, as others have noted, it does become addictive.

I would just note for those who are not familiar with the area that several years ago we made a trip to Maine in part to see Acadia National Park. We spent two days there. I was eager to take pictures especially from Cadillac mountain. During our time there, my photographic efforts were frustrated by fog. We could not see more than 10 feet maximum. I missed all of my long awaited shots. Just a head's up. On the positive side, there is great food to be had in town.

I believe the "generic" phrase is, "Here, hold my beer and watch this......!"

CHG CANNON has always been very consistent on this point and I agree with him and with suntouched. CHG CANNON responds to the question of GAS with technically correct analysis which may or may not be what the question is about but it useful information in making a decision. The only factor I would add is that I have "upgraded" several times (over a 60 year period) and have found that new equipment, even if it does not meaningfully improve my capabilities or results, does created new and added enthusiasm for the hobby. The result, of course is, now my wife and I are sifting through 50,000 photos (digital, slides and prints) to save our offspring from the task and to identify the people in the pictures where possible. I currently have a D-850 and love it but, if someone gave me $25,000 to upgrade and shift all my gear to a Z9, it would be fun and give me new challenges. In the meantime, I'll stick with the D-850 which, as many have noted, has more capabilities than I will ever use.

Thank you all for the very quick and effective responses. It now works!! All this without grankids help. Just with very helpful Hoggers. Now all I have to do for the next year or so is to scan and file thousands of slides and prints. No, I am not scanning everything. We have spent much of the pandemic period weeding out our photos and slides. We have reduced the numbers by at least 70%. Of those, many will stay as prints and slides. The "good" ones that we think the next several generations might be interested in will be scanned and stored. Now that I have the system down, I am also sending many to old friends with flash backs to as much as 60 years ago and more.

Again, thank you all very much.

A good friend gave me a Canon 9000F flatbed scanner for me to scan a selection from 5,000 slides and too many shoe boxes full of prints. I was able to get it set up just fine and it scans both prints and slides as advertised. My problem is it only seems to output pdf files and I need/want jpeg files. The fellow who gave me the scanner is sure he was able get jpegs out of the scanner but I have not figured it out yet. My two kids and the four grandkids have not been of help yet so I am seeking some assistance from knowledgeable Hoggers.

Yes, I have checked on Google and most of the recommendations seem to be to subscribe to Adobe for $9.99 a month for an "easy" conversion. This seems like significant overkill. I hope there is a way just to have it output in jpeg format. If not, then I need a convenient way to convert the pdf to jpeg. Any assistance will be sincerely appreciated.

What online service do u use and are u happy with it! I know there are many. How many pages do you shoot for in each book?

I am not sure what system Lighthouse uses but I have used Shutterfly almost since they started and am fully satisfied with their services. I find their customer service to be excellent and readily available. I have all of my digital pictures stored on Shutterfly (at no cost to me) (and backed up separately, of course). I make calendars every year as gifts. The calendars usually are filled with people, events and scenery from that year and are individualized for the recipient. I also make photo books of key vacations as well of years with special travels, etc. I have never been disappointed with Shutterfly. They once made a printing error on a calendar and, when pointed out to them, replaced the whole series for free - and quickly. Shutterfly is one of the few companies that I have full faith in. And, no, I have no financial or other connection with the company except that I have been using them for many, many years.

Absolutely superior photos! May I please ask what it costs to "hire" the required guide? How long was the "tour" or the photo shoot?

Thank you.

Therwol, Thank you very much for your thorough and rapid response. The key element I am missing is how I connect my computer to a memory card. Do I just insert the properly formatted memory card in the same device I use to upload my pictures to the computer. I guess that makes the most sense.

Again, thank you!
