I would appreciate input on what Mac laptop to purchase. I have always shied away from them but after my last Dell purchase less than 2 yrs ago and output of $1100.00 for upgrade of storage ect., I have decided not to get another as I have had it crash and repaired too many times this year.
Being a large frame camera photographer, I am interested in what model Mac you use or suggest.
Thanks for the input.

Get the most powerful one you can afford. Make sure you max out the RAM 32gb minimum. Also get a good sized screen. Rumour has it that Apple will release new MacBooks in, I think, December with their new chip. If you are buying new then it may be worth waiting.Good luck.

This morning I purchased this program and used it on only one image as I had other commitments. This particular image I liked except for the noise so which better one to experiment with. I was amazed on two counts, first in how fast it was and secondly in the amazing job it did. My Topaz AI Sharpen is extremely slow but this program was like lightening. Now this is only one image I experimented with so time will tell as I move forward. Also Topaz recommends using Denoise as the first step in your image processing. Enlarge these and see the stunning difference. Now isn't this strange???? The one with the Denoise applied looks purple on my screen until it is downloaded. Let me know if it looks purple on your screen.

I have Topas Ai Sharpen and Ai Denoise too. My experience has been identical to yours. I find Ai Denoise terrific. Fast and effective. I'm still working on Ai Sharpen.

Correct. I use my right eye and don't get the problem. Just a smudge on the rear screen.

Thanks to all who have contributed their thoughts here. My “thunk” on this is to sell my D40 and the few Nikon-mount lenses I’ve accumulated over the years (Nikon 50mm f:1.8, Sigma 28-70mm f:2.8, Tamron 80-210mm f1.3.8-1:4, and a Tamron 18-270mm f:3.5-6.3) and move on. Don’t know what I can get for that gear, but whatever would assist toward my budget of $800-1200. Having used Nikon for years doesn’t anchor me to that brand . . . but I do lean in that direction. My desire for my new camera is still hobby, the government has sent me around the world so travel is still a strong desire . . . Maybe I’ll post a few of my photos here to see if there is any appreciation of an old salt’s pics.

If you want to go Mirrorless I'd suggest the Z50 Nikon. If you stay DSLR the D7200 is an excellent camera. You can use all your existing lenses on these (adapter required for Z50). Me, I shoot Fuji having moved away from Nikon. My Fuji XT1 reminds me of my Nikon FM/FM2 (long gone). I adapt my vintage Nikon primes and use them on my Fujis. Good luck and have lots of fun which ever way you go.

I'm thinking to buy a used lens from KEH Camera. I don't know anything about KEH Camera. (keh.com) Anyone out there has done business with them? Are they good company to do business with? Am I making a mistake buying a lens from online used eqipment store. I'm buying Canon 24-70mm f2.8L @ $900. Excellent condition lens.

I have bought a number of lenses from KEH their service has been exceptional. Each lens I bought was better than their rating IMO. I highly recommend KEH.

Admit it. You will buy another camera. What will it be?

It may be an extra/backup, or maybe you want a small compact camera for travel. Of course, you could be planning to update and replace your Main Shooter. I have my D750, Sony a6000, and Fuji X-T30, in addition, so some older cameras, so I'm all set. But what about you?

If I could afford it (which I can't) it would be a Fuji GFX50R plus lenses. So as I have 4 Fuji X bodies and lenses plus an old D300 and lenses & a Nikkormat + loads of vintage glass the real answer is nothing.

The Z5 is a new camera. Just been released I think. Seems it could fit the bill.

For what it's worth, my non-AI 55mm f/1.2 from 1968 seemed sharp enough at the time, and my own testing showed it to be sharper with more contrast than my 50mm f/1.4 up to about f/4. Coma was a known issue with that lens. I even found that it produced upside down, ghost images of bright things like illuminated crosswalk signs in night scenes in NYC. I still have the lens but never had the aperture ring modified, so I can't use it on a modern camera, but I suspect that it would not perform as well as a modern lens. Digital is unforgiving.

Hi there,

You can use that lens unmodified on a Nikon DF and also on most, if not all, mirrorless bodies.

Good luck.

Looking for advice. I have 3 macro lenses and two 50 mm (a D 1.4 and a G 1.8) Nikon lenses. I already have a 105 f2.8 D macro Nikon lens and a DX 40 mm macro Nikon lens. I was given a Micro Nikkor 55 f2.8 lens. I am wondering if I should sell it. But if you all with your experience say, "NO, NO, NO!!" "it was one of the best", then I will keep it. Still on the fence. Appreciate your counsel.

Do not sell it. It is a terrific lens. Use it. Enjoy it.

Firmly believe that Apple kit is a rip off, if you like using Apple good luck to you that is your choice but I think that Apple gear is a rip off and would never buy anything from Apple apart from a granny smith

I ran a 200 seat call centre. We used Macs when they were really expensive. Why? Because we needed 30% of the tech support staff to support the Macs compared to PCs. So although the CapEx was higher the running costs were much lower.

Same applies now. That why I use Macs. I run Windows on one for a specific programme. I find it horrible to use after Mac OS.

I had a D7K. The D7200 is a much better camera. Buffer size, sensor, the software/firmare you name it. Do it. You will not regret it.

Hi all Fuji X series are crop sensor. If you want FF you will need to look at Sony A7 series and up, Nikon Z5, Z6 or Z7. There are other FF mirrorless out there too.
