I would appreciate input on what Mac laptop to purchase. I have always shied away from them but after my last Dell purchase less than 2 yrs ago and output of $1100.00 for upgrade of storage ect., I have decided not to get another as I have had it crash and repaired too many times this year.
Being a large frame camera photographer, I am interested in what model Mac you use or suggest.
Thanks for the input.

I have a MacBookPro that I purchased i 2017. I use it almost exclusively for photos. Along with an external hard drive it performs all the PP and storage functions I need. Pay attention to the requirements for your favorites PP programs in deciding how much to add to the base model.

I would get a 27" Mac desktop. I have an old (and no longer in use) 13" macBook. But have also always had the 21"Mac desktop. But in this past year moved on to the 27" Mac desktop. Will never look back. That size is great for processing my pictures.

Plenty of DRAM and 1TB SSD drive.

Don't know if that is in your budget?

I am more concerned about getting a computer I will not have to worry about for many years. I feel I overpaid for the dell even thou it was SSD and a lot of memory.
Thx for advice. I will check it out.

I appreciate the advice on the PP’s. That does take a lot of space.

May I ask why a desktop vs a laptop? Besides the editing of pics (which is an issue), I am just curious.

This is what I use also. If you don't need portability go with the 27" iMac.

I have a 2009 macbook pro... It does 24mp images just fine. It is a little slow with my 61mp images. I also have 2016 Mac 27' .....it handles everything. I highly recomend the 27' for editing. I also have a 2019 Macbook pro 15'. It does just as well as the 27' just not as easy to edit as the 27' because the image is not as big.

I have a 2014 macbook pro and a 2013 21" imac as I do weekend events away from home (but not much this year). The imac is higher specced and operates faster than the macbook, as the macbook is not sold with the same spec as the imac. I also use an external SSD with the macbook and transfer the images to the imac once home. So depending on how you use a computer and what specs you need do compare them and make sure you get what you need which includes how much screen you need for the photography you do. If I replace my macbook pro I will get a larger screen than the 11 or 12" I have as I have found it too small.

If it has to be a labtop , go with what pixelstan suggest . It doesn't have to be thru B&H , Go to the apple site & breeze the model configureations before you pull the trigger. if you have an iphone, ipad, etc. , eveything is available between devices automaticlly unless you choose not to.

A MacBook Pro 15" here - I often considered an iMac but I prefer mobility - in the home, on road trips and visiting friends and family, plus I can be with family and concurrently enjoy the photos. My simple approach is - all photo post-processing is on the MacBook and its HDD for any given month. By month end all sharing, organizing and posting to my websites, blogs and social media sites is essentially done and I confirm all of that month's photos were moved to the external drive for archive. Ongoing backup occurs with Time Machine and BackBlaze.

Get the most powerful one you can afford. Make sure you max out the RAM 32gb minimum. Also get a good sized screen. Rumour has it that Apple will release new MacBooks in, I think, December with their new chip. If you are buying new then it may be worth waiting.Good luck.
