I currently have a Nikon D700 which is 12 MP. Looking to stay with full frame. Don't think I need more than
24 MP. Shoot primary landscape. I plan to keep the lens that I have so staying with Nikon. This is my hoppy
so budget is $2,000. Your thoughts?

This meets your specifications perfectly.
Uses old Nikon lenses and the AF works that the Z models cannot fully use.

Or with a 24-120 lens is still in budget.

Price is right.

The D780 is over your budget, but not by much. It's not much different than the D750 you can still find new and plenty used. However, you should never buy an old camera at a new camera price. Look to KEH (and elsewhere) for EX or EX+ rated used camera listings.

David, What does your current system not do for you that you want it to do? Looking to save you $2000. I think you have GAS Stan

Stay away from the Nikon D6. It’s over $6000 and currently backordered. It would be too much camera for anyone like myself.

- D780 is the current update from your camera, but is slightly over your budget at $2300, body only. 24MP, FX DSLR.

- D750 is the earlier version... in between your camera and the D780... still available new and $1500 for body only. 24MP, FX DSLR.

- D610 is a slightly lower specification, more "affordable" model.... body only is selling for $1600.

If you were thinking of jumping to mirrorless, this might be a good time to do it. You can use your existing lenses via an adapter.

- Z5 is approx. 2 year old model now, selling for $1400. 24MP, FX MILC.

- Z6 is the newer model, selling for $1800, body only. 24MP, FX MILC.

You might be able to buy "refurbished" direct from Nikon USA website for some savings. (I noticed refurb'd D3X, an older top of the line model, are selling for right at $2000). The newest models, like D780 and Z6, are unlikely to be found refurb'd as yet. Too new. It's usually about a year after introduction before demo units, returns, out of box units start to show up as refurb'd.

Not sure what a "hoppy" is, as it relates to photography... I've had some rather hoppy beer at times

(Yeah, yeah... I know, it's just a typo... but I couldn't resist.)

I bought a brand new D750 from B&H Photo earlier this year when it was reduced to $1296. It has since gone back up to $1496. It's a fantastic camera. Don't hesitate to get one. Skip the D610. Its autofocus is a step down from the AF in the D750. I use the Tamron 45mm f/1.8 SP VC lens ($399) on my D750 a lot. It's fully weather sealed and has vibration compensation.

You can get a used D610 on ebay for less than $700. You can get a used D810 for less than $1200. A used D800e or D800 for less than $1000, or a used D750 for less than $900. I have bought nothing but used cameras on ebay from top rated sellers for years. My last DSLR purchase on ebay was the 50MP Pentax 645Z with 55mm autofocus lens for $3100. I also bought several manual focus Pentax 645 lenses for less than $300 each.

I would suggest trying the D610 before buying. I found its user interface quite different and a little awkward for me, since it is significantly smaller than your D700 (or the D300 that I had at the time). Might work well for you as it does for others, though. If you are not "hard limited" to 24 MP, you might consider a used D810, but beware heavy usage. The D810 has a very pleasing shutter, and all important camera adjustments are available without having to enter the menu system. It's also a good low-light camera in case you decide to extend your landscape photography past twilight. i know that you indicate that you plan to keep your current lenses, but if there are some newer ones that you have your eye on, just make sure that whatever you buy is compatible. Some older bodies are either incompatible or only partially compatible with some of the newer lenses.

The mania for mirrorless cameras has resulted in some occasionally really good deals on some really capable used recent model DSLRs. Just shop with care.

This would be my suggestion also. If sticking to your budget is important , a D750. OR D850 if you don't mind the jump in megapixels.
