Anyone own or have used Fugifilm X-Pro 2 Mirrorless? What lens as a starter.

What do you like to photograph? As a general purpose zoom, the XF 18-55 f2.8-f4 kit lens is a very well regarded bargain. A step up is the XF16-55 f2.8. For a wider zoom range (but slower), the 16-80 or 18-135 are candidates, and if you don’t mind the weight, the XF 50-140 f2.8 is excellent (the crop equivalent of the widely used FF 70-210 f2.8). Personally, I’m investing in the primes for speed and IQ. The XF90 f2 (135mm FF equivalent) is a great portrait lens, and I’m going to purchase the XF56 f1.2 (the rough equivalent of the classic 85mm FF portrait lens) next.

Out door photography has always been my thing and now that the grandkids are grown and away at collage I will conctrate on nature winter and summer. I like the wide angle of the 18-55 and the 18-135. I have the Nikon D7200 with 5 differant lens. I want a full frame thats lighter even if it is used. I recently bought a Panasonic DMC-ZS 100 for my first point and shoot, grab and out the door camera .

Now I’m confused - the Fuji, while a great camera with a great lens lineup, is a crop body, just like your D7200, but you said you wanted a FF?

Nope - can be either crop of FF, depending on the manufacturer (and model). To my knowledge, all the X series Fuji’s are crop. Sony, Canon and Nikon all have FF mirrorless bodies. There are real advantages to FF, but in general, both the bodies and the lenses will be heavier and more expensive - the price of perfection.

Even if she's not really going to want a Fujifilm camera with an APS-C sensor, I think you gave her an excellent reply.

I know your request is about an X-Pro 2 mirrorless, so you can totally disregard this suggestion if you wish. I bought a Fuji XE3 for a lighter weight option. I have an assortment of primes and short range zooms, but just acquired an 18-135mm zoom which I plan to take on vacation this coming week. For your stated needs, this may offer you a great alternative to the X-Pro 2. Or not, your call. Good luck with your decision. I would add that Fuji makes great equipment.

The kit lens is very good but I’d look at the new lens that’s 16-80mm.

Hi - may I just say that "the price of perfection" has nothing to do with FF or APS-C or M43? or SLR or mirrorless? or wide angle or telephoto? Without a proper photographer they are all of little use.

I completely agree, and maybe I should have chosen a different word than “perfection”, but I would add that in high ISO/low light situations, the ~1 stop better performance of FF vs crop or ~2 stops vs M43 can make a big difference. You can trade that 1 or 2 stops for 2 or 4x the shutter speed or 1-2 stops more DOF, and depending on the situation, that can make the difference between a usable and an unusable shot. In some cases, It doesn’t matter how good the photographer is - you can’t make usable indoor sports shots at 1/60 with an M43, but you can with a FF at 1/250. All depends on what you like to shoot.

Cheers

Hello I use an Xpro 2 with a 18-55 and I just bought the 55-200 to compliment the set up. I do have a third prime maybe the 35mm if I remember correctly. Its been a while since I have used the prime to be honest. Great camera I absolutely feel in love with it and looking to expand my Fuji line up. Even though I have been a Nikon user for a lot longer I find myself grabbing the Fuji more and more.
The two lens I mentioned should cover your subject ranges that you are intending. If you'd like I can post up some pictures later on this evening.
