Do not put any camera equipment in a checked bag. It is to easy for it to go missing (stolen). At the TSA screening remove the equipment and put in separate bin to help speed your way through the process. I have a separate pouch for spare batteries.
The source my wife and I use for all our framing is Hobby Lobby. They have a wide variety in stock in wood and metal. They also have plenty of mat board colors. Most of time we just drop the art work off and have them mount it.

I have purchased 5 lenses from the canon USA website. All have arrived looking and operated as new. I have had no problems. Canon refurbishes lenses to high standards. For the money saved over new it is definitely worth it to me.
It would be fine if the action is right in front of you, but not enough for action down court. I would look for a zoom up to 300mm. Canon EF 75 to 300 mm would fit the purpose. Also, if you upgrade to full frame an EF lens will work just fine.

You could use a dremel with the thinest metal blade and very carefully cut the ring in 2 places about 3/4 " apart not cutting into the lens threads. Then a needle nose plier should break the piece out and free up to remove.
Yes, but now I only use genuine canon batteries in my 3 bodies. They hold a charge longer than 3rd party which I relegated to backup. Check Amazon, the cost is very reasonable.
When traveling with my gear in a carry on and I put in an overhead bin. Never in checked luggage. If just one body and a couple of lenses I put in small camera bag and put under the seat in front of me. You can take both.
