If you purchased a refurbished Canon lens, what has been your experience with it? Are you glad that you purchased refurbished instead of new?

I have purchased 5 lenses from the canon USA website. All have arrived looking and operated as new. I have had no problems. Canon refurbishes lenses to high standards. For the money saved over new it is definitely worth it to me.

Yes for sure what the other Dave said. I doubt you will have problems with Canon refurbished. All the ones I have purchased looked brand new and worked flawlessly

I have never had a problem with a refurbished lens or camera from Canon. I always look at refurbished first. Always just like new with a new warranty.

Same experience with multiple lenses and several cameras, including a 1D X.
If you can find what you want refurbished buy it with confidence.

Don't misunderstand 'refurbished'. These lenses are virtually unused returns, visually reviewed and placed into original packaging and offered for resale. These are lenses designed to last for decades, just like the decades old lenses I shoot today. They are as good as new, but no longer actually 'new'. They are not broken / damaged and then repaired.

It could also be a buyer's remorse return, but not always.
My refurbished 1D X had ~7000 shutter cycles, so not "virtually new". My T5i had a few hundred cycles.
Mine never came in original packing; the lenses were "white box" packed. Interestingly, all three of my refurbished cameras came in Vixia video camera boxes with Canon labeling.
If someone buys a new product and for some reason, out of the box, it doesn't work, Canon will rectify the problem and then it is a refurb.
Bottom line - do not be concerned about buying refurb.

Bought a camera/lens kit refurbished from Canon. Appeared new to me… had Canon warranty. Only difference I could see is it left some $ in my pocket.
Kit was a 80D w/ 18-135 USM

Bought the 1 DX refurbed from Canon. First image I recorded was number 11. Somebody musty not have like its "feel." Great piece of equipment.

Every Canon lens I currently own was purchased from Canon’s refurbished website, except for one which was obtained used from MPB. I own only one lens that I bought new, a Sigma 150-600 Cont. All have and continue to be excellent performers.

I have purchased several, from different vendors. They have all worked fine with no problems or issues.

First of all I buy from a reliable source
Second, I look at the submitted lens photos and make sure that it has no scratches, dents or any other damages.
I prefer to buy from someone who still has the original lens box
That proves ( in a way) that the person cares about the equipment.
Afterwards, I register the lens with Canon.
If the lens is a grey market lens, you wouldn’t be able to register it with them
I then send the bill to my ins company to protect it in case of accidental damage.

All my L lenses have been refurbished. A Canon tech once told me that it is the best deal, since they have to check it from A to Z before they can certify it for sale. I have had mine now for quite some time without any problems.

I am a big fan of refurbished equipment IF if is factory refurbished. I have bought both cameras (Nikon) and lenses that have been refurbished and they appear as new. The only time I had a problem was when I bought a refurbished D7200 from B&H that had close to 30,000 shutter actuations. That was too many for me so I returned it and instead got a refurbished D7500 in return. When I took a test shot with the D7500 and uploaded it to the camera shutter count website, it came back as 1 shutter actuation, in other words brand new.
I would advise you not to be hesitant to buy refurbished equipment from the manufacturer. Good luck.
