I have the f1.8 lens and love it. For me it is a great portrait lens but I use it for other things as well. Good luck on a choice.

Totally agree!

I am relatively new to hobby photography. I have a Nikon D7200. I am interested in landscape, wildlife, etc. photography. I want a good tripod. I am on a “retiree” budget. Any recommendations? Thanks.

one of my favorite old quotes was from Edward Weston (I believe) "A tripod is a necessary evil, and the better the tripod the greater the evil". Back then "better" probably meant bigger and heavier.

Is anyone successfully using a WiFi SD card in a Nikon D800, or similar model Nikon DSLR? I would like to automatically upload my photo's to my WIN10 laptop via my network. Thank you.

i have used a Toshiba Flash Air 32g card in a D7000 and now in a D600 for several years now. Works fine. Trick -- you need to put your camera in "slide show" mode so it won't time out in the middle of transfer.

During my early days in the USAF my camera was a Mamiya Sekor 35mm range finder that I purchased at an AF Exchange at an air base in the upper peninsula of Michigan. In 1971 the AF sent me to Misawa AB, Japan where the BX had a fabulous assortment of cameras. I walked in one day intent on purchasing the popular Asahi Pentax Spotmatic for $125. Next to it was sitting a Nikon FTN with the 50mm f1.4 lens for $192. I still have the FTN. I went digital with the Coolpix 990 (3.3MP) in 2000. My current Nikon is the D750.

i was shooting mostly corporate stuff back then, mostly on Kodachrome 25 or 64. Bracketing was essential, not only for exposure but sharpness --- focus and shake.

This is great. I’m trying recall what the difference was between the Nikon F and the Photomic FTN. Anyone recall? Built in meter maybe?

Built in would be a stretch. I had 2 of them with motors. the motor was attached to the back and you ended up with 2 completely separated pieces to deal with when you changed film. (which you did every 36 shots, and you really needed to bracket most of the time)

Hello Friends,
I recently upgraded to an iPhone 11 from my iPhone 6. With my 6 I could plug it into my windows pc windows 8 and I could see the drive and pull them onto a folder on my computer. Yesterday I had to plug them into a mac and airdrop 280 photos which took a lot of time. I then moved them to a flash drive then onto my pc. I have tried Itunes and the cloud and don't have much luck either. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Mick

i have an 11 and no issues at all. move to my macbook pro with the camera capture utility instead of photos. (photos works-- just used to moving them to a folder instead of to photos) --i shoot with the 11 more than i ever had shot with a phone. amazing for a phone. i bought a "Y disk" ?? drive from amazon. it has a lightning plug that slides out of one end and if you slide in the other direction a USB plug. works like a champ. i think it's 64 gb and it wasn't really much more than a sandisk drive of the same size.

there was a famous photographer, can't remember if it was Adams or Weston, or some other, that said "A tripod is a necessary evil, and the better the tripod the greater the evil" or something to that effect.
A small light tripod you have with you when you need it is much better than the super stable big one in your trunk.

Greetings
I need your valuable opinions. I want to buy an on camera flash unit for my Nikon camera. It doesn't have a built in pop up flash. Normally I don't use flash but I thought I should have one if needed. I see Neewer have inexpensive TTL units.
Is Neewer a reliable brand?
Thank you

i purchased a Neewer from Amazon for about $80 or so and have found it to be well made, (enough), reliable and a bargain. so far. (i don't use an on camera flash very oftern)

I used to be a commercial photographer (film -- before digital) and shot a lot of resorts and golf courses etc in the 80's and 90's. After getting up at 4am to shoot the "best view you have ever seen" at whatever resort we were selling that week my assistant came up with a term for them. AFS. These days, I love to look at every one of them, but it takes a pretty special one to get me to take an image.
