Opinion on the Nikon D610

Need an opinion regarding the purchase of a new D610. My local photo store has the Nikon D610 (from Nikon Canada) with 50 mm 1.8 lens and battery grip on for about $900 US, but only until tomorrow. I have a number of older Nikon AI and AF -D lenses from my film days. I currently have a Nikon D7200 with the 18 - 140 mm VR and 10 - 20 mm VR lenses - both DX. I would have gone FX with the D750 at the time, but it was a bit too high in price. The D610 came out in 2013, but at this price it is tempting.

Beware the pressure sale. Check reviews D 610 vs. D 750 - there are very good prices on the D 750 lately.

The BH photo sale on the D610 with battery grip, 50 mm lens, and camera is a killer deal. Grab it while you can. Where else can you buy a full frame Nikon camera for $400!

Although without a lens, you can find used D750s in the $900 - $1000 range, USD here. Consider if the newer, more advanced model is the better purchase.

To be honest I don't why you need D610 if you have D7200 which is an excellent camera. Yes, D610 is full frame and high ISO performance is better but you have 18-140 on your 7200, it has VR and it works very well. You can shoot with 18-140 1/10 sec when you are in low light. Auto focus in D7200 is much better (especially in low light) and max shutter speed is 1/8000 vs 1/4000.
I have both FX and DX. I think if you are primary wide angle and low light shooter than FX makes sense otherwise D7200 with 18-140 and 10-20 can handle almost everything.

There’s a member selling a d750 w/o lens for $700. I love mine!

It's not always what you need. Sometimes it's what you want. And sometimes it's what you REALLY want.

Unless you would want to focus on landscape, portrait and studio photography, i see no need for you to get a D610 as that with the proper lens, is what it excels on. Your 7200 is a better all-rounder camera than the D610

the 610 is a very affordable and capable camera.
Not a world beater in total performance, but it's
an excellent bang for the buck.

"Advisors" may question your "need" for FF, but
no one actually NEEDS a FF SLR, not even the
working photographers. You want it ? Your bills
are paid ? Buy it.

At $700, this D750 is a steal:

I agree with the comment above. If it’s the D750 you really want, I would take another look at current prices for the D750 before grabbing this D610. Prices on the D750 have come down a lot in the last 4 weeks.

Both are very capable, mid-range FF DSLRs, but the D750 has a clear edge over the D610. Either way, I think you’ll be happy with a FF DSLR.

Wyoshotter, thanks for your comments. it is tempting. They seem to have the same Nikon deals on at the moment as locally. i receive regular offers from BH, but they do not ship new Nikons to Canada. I guess that Nikon Canada does not approve.

CHG, Thanks. The newer D750 has features that make it more attractive.
