Normally I get ignored. But maybe this time I'm close to the top.

Asking that question is either bait for trolls or you really have no idea. If it is the latter, decide how you like to learn. Pick a learning system to match. Start reading, watching or whatever. After you like the way the learning is going, buy the software to match what is being taught.

My vote is for Microsoft Word.

It's stable and almost universal in the business world.

There's no best program.

There are best practices.

Best practice: Edit raw files.
Best practice: Avoid editing lossy compressed files (JPEG).
Best practice: Keep your editing as non-destructive as possible. (Edit parametrically).
Best practice: Keep your editing as efficient as possible. (Edit parametrically).

You are what your tools say you are.

The one that costs the most money and is the hardest to learn. Seriously though you need to asks a more reasonable question. Best in what way? Price? Number of features? Best quality output? Easiest to Learn? Compatibility? Support? Training materials? Interface? etc. It is an impossible question to answer. It really comes down to what is best for you.

Too many people subscribe to software with features they don't need to impress people they don't like.

The one you don't have, just like cameras, lens, etc.

I've worked with Lightroom & Photoshop but they offer so much more than I want. I don't want editing that changes the whole photograph. I need to edit very little. I do shoot in raw & JPEG but find raw is taking up too much room & yes I know it has more information. I work with Faststone & really like it but just wondered what else was out there. So...thank you to those who gave me the information I was asking & not making a rude comment. I really thought this was a site to learn on ?!

I almost never shoot RAW - I have several different editing software systems, but since my shots are usually near what I wanted, the tools in Windows Live Photo Gallery work very well. I have PSE, Nikon and Canon editing programs as well. Once in a while they come in handy.
